While I agree with most of what was said, I strongly disagree with this statement:
However, X is not a satisfactory solution. Running a modern desktop environment like KDE will bog down a fast network with only a few users.
X is wonderful. With glx and 'render' extensions, it's even better than wonderful.
Otherwise, he's right; but I'll make a stronger statement: thin client computing is _the_ killer app for Linux. X is so fast on the LAN, 99% of applications run as fast or faster than local. Faster because the application actually executes on a much faster server machine with higher disk bandwidth. Video games and screensavers can, and should, run on the client - as well as a few other apps (mp3 players, etc...).
