open source windows Now WAIT!
Reading this story, I started thinking about all those "broken" freeware programs I had found. If they were open source they could certainly be fixed and patches released by its users. Windows would be more stable and compatable (yes win98/2000 will not install/run on some older systems) if its users had access to its source. The world would be a better place for windows users.
But hold on, why did I switch to linux? 1) FREE .. 2) Stability .. 3) GPL which allows me to learn from others. If these were the case of Windows to the extent that linux is I would not have switched to linux and nor would have many other users in the past year. Microsofts lack of users first ideals has lead the push of the open-source community to its ever increasing userbase and the huge array of software to entise even more users. After all die hard Windows only software co's are even switching to *nix software.
So lets give Microsoft the credit it desirves, 3 cheers for Microsoft, they helped get opensource where it is today.
