So, you're saying that there is a guarantee that Micros~1 software isn't buggy in some untested way?? Unfortunately, we take a risk in running any software: the risk that there will be bugs that escaped testing, no matter how rigorous. The difference is that open source software gets some of the most rigorous testing available. So okay, don't use the latest kernel if you're worried about uncaught bugs. Wait for 2.4.something, because it will include the latest patches found by others who aren't worried about high reliability, or those who need the latest features and are willing to make the tradeoff.
