Linux Servers in Schools
I've recently setup and currently administer a linux (debian) server at our highschool, it works fantastic, we serve http, ftp, appletalk, and support
~100 users. We also do mail, dns, etc, etc. The benefits are great, highschool students (myself) can learn to admin "real world" machines, and problems. It also saved the school money, letting more funds go into hardware then software, instead of using Metrowerks we use g++ for our C++ classes. Instead of paying hundreds for photoshop, we could simply export X displays and use the Macs to run gimp. It been a very good experience, and now we hardly use any mac program to do real work (ie, programming) we just ssh to the server. It works wonderful.
