SMPlayer is a complete media player for Windows and Linux. It uses MPlayer as a playback engine, which is capable of playing most video and audio formats (AVI, mkv, WMV, MP4, MPEG, etc.). It can also play and download YouTube videos. One of the most interesting features is that it remembers the settings of all files you play. So if you start to watch a movie but have to leave, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume, etc.
Ezstream is a command line source client for the Icecast media streaming server. It can stream Ogg Vorbis and MP3 audio, as well as Ogg Theora video, either "as-is" without reencoding (which uses only very little CPU time) or it can use external decoders and encoders to convert virtually any media format into one of the supported streaming formats. Ezstream supports metadata, streaming from standard input, playlists, and external playlist scripts or programs, and more.
CastCluster provides access to additional content on iTunes, Apple TV, iPod, or a random podcast viewer. It currently supports YouTube, Google Video, Revver, local disks, and RSS feeds as sources of content. It uses ffmpeg for video conversion. It also provides some other bookmarklet functionality, like digg and del.icio.us.
Advene (Annotate Digital Video, Exchange on the NEt) is aimed at providing a model and a format to share annotations about digital video documents (movies, courses, conferences, etc.), as well as tools to edit and visualize the hypervideos generated from both the annotations and the audiovisual documents. Teachers, moviegoers, etc. can use them to exchange multimedia comments and analyses about video documents. The project also aims at studying the way that communities of users (teachers, moviegoers, students, etc.) will use these self-publishing tools to share their audiovisual "readings", and to envision new editing and viewing interfaces for interactive comment and analysis of audiovisual content.

homeTVstream is a collection of shell scripts and a PHP-based Web page for watching TV on your LAN computers. It is based on VLC, and encodes and streams video using port 8080 in an MMS stream. You can watch it with VLC by using the URL mmsh://yourserverip:8080/, with any other MMS-capable player by using the URL mms://yourserverip:8080/, or just by opening the TV page in your Web browser.
