XBMC Media Center (formerly Xbox Media Center) is a multimedia player/jukebox application for Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, and Xbox. It can be used to play or view most common video, audio, and picture formats such as MPEG-1/2/4, DivX, XviD, MP3, AAC, JPG, and GIF directly from a CD or DVD in the Xbox DVD-ROM drive or from the Xbox hard drive. XBMC can also stream files over a local network or from the Internet. Playlist and slideshow functions, a weather forecast, and many audio visualizations are also included.
TiVo File Decoder software converts a .TiVo file (produced by the TiVoToGo functionality on recent TiVo software releases) to a normal MPEG file. This has the same functionality as using TiVo's supplied DirectShow DLL on Windows with a tool such as DirectShowDump, but is portable to different architectures and operating systems, and runs on the command line using files or pipes. The conversion still requires the valid MAK of the TiVo which recorded the file, so it cannot be used to circumvent their protection, simply to provide the same level of access as is already available on Windows.
xcalib loads the 'vcgt'-tag of ICC/ICM color profiles to the X- server, in order to calibrate the user's display by tweaking the LUTs in the video card. Users need a profile which contains the 'vcgt' tag to achieve monitor calibration with the video card's LUTs. These profiles can be created with most commercial profile creation programs. For testing purposes, some profiles are added to the tarball.
Streamsniff is a small command line tool that sniffs network traffic for stream URLs. It detects RTSP, MMS, and icy protocols, and performs a backtrace on HTTP traffic to detect "playlist" URLs and Flash video files. This is useful when you want to reveal the stream you started with your browser and don't feel like digging through loads of HTML and Javascript.
