view3dscene is a browser for VRML (1.0 and 2.0) and X3D, and a viewer for other 3D model formats (3DS, MD3, Wavefront OBJ, and Collada are handled). It supports viewing the scene in the "Examine" mode and walking in the virtual world with features such as collision detection and gravity. Rendering is done using OpenGL. Many advanced 3D graphic effects are available, like mirrors (flat and through cube environment mapping), shadows (shadow maps and shadow volumes), GLSL shaders and more. The program can also convert files from 3DS, MD3, Collada and other formats to X3D and pretty-print VRML and X3D files.
vile is a text editor which is extremely compatible with vi. It has extended capabilities in many areas, including multi-file editing and viewing, mouse support, infinite undo, additional operators, and rectangular operations. Vile has an optional Perl interface for UNIX and NT. It can also be built as "xvile", which is fully X-aware, or "winvile" for Win32, with scrollbars, menus, etc.
vsfplot is a 2D vector and scalar field plotter. It features Line Integral Convolution (LIC) on data, curvilinear scaled arrows following the flow lines, a mixed mode (scalar field map with overlaid vector field), handling of missing data to not interfere with the flow lines, generation of Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files (which are easily editable and convertible while preserving the best quality for inclusion in a PDF scientific article), and a color palette designed so the flows are uniformly readable when printed as greyscale.
