makebootfat is a tool to make bootable USB disks. It can autodetect, partition, format, and populate the USB disk in a single step without any user interaction. It can also create disk images which are simultaneously compatible with all the three USB booting standards: USB-FDD, USB-HDD, and USB-ZIP.
Makefiles is a high-level build system and suite of portability tools. It is meant to be easier to use than autoconf and generally superior. The package contains a set of rules that allows you to compile structured projects with small and uniformly structured makefiles. All rules are located in a central directory. Compiling the projects on different platforms can be done simultaneously without having to modify any of the makefiles that are located in the projects directories.
makethumbs is a Bourne shell script which creates static HTML image galleries suitable for web or CDROM presentations. It is designed for portability and depends on the fewest possible helper programs. You can simply run makethumbs in a directory of JPEGs and get a usable set of web pages. If you have the time, you can add captions, descriptions, and create a dotrc file to completely change the look and feel of the generated gallery. A small helper script, rotate.sh, is also available to easily fix rotated images.
mdocml is a suite of tools for compiling "-mdoc", the roff macro package of choice for BSD manual pages, and "-man", the predominant historical package for UNIX manuals. The mission of mdocml is to deprecate groff, the GNU roff implementation, for displaying -mdoc pages whilst providing token support for -man.
Mapnik is a toolkit for developing GIS applications. At the core is a C++ shared library providing algorithms/patterns for spatial data access and visualization. Essentially a collection of geographic objects (map, layer, datasource, feature, and geometry), the library doesn't rely on "windowing systems" and can be deployed in any server environment. It is intended to play fair in a multi-threaded environment and is aimed primarily, but not exclusively, at Web-based development. High-level Python bindings (boost.python) facilitate rapid application development, targeting zope3, django, etc.
markov.sql implements third order (and lower) model Markov Chains, including training and generation, in pure SQL(ite). The source code archive also contains a pre-trained SQL dump with models based on the 1990 US Census Bureau data sets for first and last names, and an excerpt of the 2012 US tax office corporation names.
The massXpert software package is a mass spectrometry environment for linear (bio-)polymers. It inherits all the innovations of GNU polyxmass. It allows the detailed definition of new polymer chemistries in the XpertDef module. These chemistry definitions are then used in the desktop calculator-like mass calculator (XpertCalc) and in the sophisticated polymer sequence editor and (bio-)chemical/mass spectrometric simulations module (XpertEdit). Available simulations include polymer and monomer chemical modifications, polymer sequence cleavage, gas-phase fragmentation, m/z ratio calculations, and more.
Mathpump is a simplistic remote collaboration tool. It could be useful for those researchers who tend to think by drawing pictures (e.g. theoretical physics). Bob uses Inkscape to draw a picture, which is incrementally transmitted to the Alice's computer so she can look at it. She answers by drawing her own picture, which is transmitted to Bob. Transmission happens every time the SVG file is saved. The transmission is incremental; what is actually transmitted is the difference between the old version of the SVG file and the new one.
mdepub is a tool that allows you to compose a book in Markdown format and use Pandoc and Calibre to compile an Epub package including all of the book's source material. In effect, you can keep the source and product in the same file in your library; if you ever want to revise the product, you merely need to extract the source, make edits, and recompile.
