Minnow is a concurrent programming language with a Ruby-like syntax. It compiles to an executable and uses a companion library to allow fully-rebalanced microthreads. Minnow gains a lot of strength from its actor model, which uses message passing, as opposed to threads and locking, as its concurrency model. Taking a cue from Erlang, actor creation and message passing is extremely lightweight (often on the order of a few nanoseconds). The language has a built-in foreign function interface that allows developers to leverage existing C-based libraries in a simple SWIG-like manner. Minnow's object model is based on "melding" features together to form objects.
MySQL Workbench is a cross-platform, graphical database modeling tool for MySQL. It allows you to create database models from scratch as well as by importing existing databases from SQL or DBDesigner4 models. You can then generate SQL code to CREATE databases, ALTER them, and export in various image formats and PDF/PS. Its extension system allows writing plugins and scripts in Lua, Python, and C++.
Usenet Downloader can be used to retrieve newsgroup articles from NNTP servers. There is a generic NNTP class that can retrieve listings of groups, listing of group articles, and the article headers and bodies. There are other classes that can retrieve listing of groups from several different sites and insert the listings into a MySQL database table. Other classes can retrieve groups stored in the database and retrieve articles of those groups from the NNTP servers.
Grafx2 is a bitmap paint program that allows you to draw in more than 60 video resolutions (from 320x200 to 1024x768, including most of the standard Amiga resolutions: 320x256, 320x512, 640x256, 640x512, and more, provided your video card knows how to handle them). Its layout is not very different from the famous Deluxe Paint or Brilliance, so it will be quite easy to handle it if you know at least one of these programs.
etm is an acronym for Event and Task Manager. It provides a simple, intuitive format for using plain text files to store event, task, and other data items, a command line interface for viewing stored information in a variety of convenient ways, and a cross-platform, PyQt-based GUI for creating and modifying items as well as viewing them. Displayed items can be grouped by date, context, keyword, or project and can be filtered in various ways. A display of busy and free times is also supported, as is a ledger view of time spent that is suitable for client billing. Alarms are supported for events and repetition for both events and tasks in a powerful and flexible manner.
dns.c is a recursive, re-entrant, non-blocking DNS resolver in a single .c file. It features a record-agnostic API, restartable record iterators, and smart queries which recursively follow out-of-bailiwick NS, MX, and SRV host references. It works just as well as a stub resolver, too. It also includes spf.c, a non-blocking SPF resolver with no threading, no forking, and no run-time dependencies.
