Rsyncrypto allows you to encrypt a file or a directory structure such that they can later be synchronized to another machine using rsync. This means that local changes to the plain text file result in local changes to the cipher text file. rsyncrypto compresses the plain text file prior to encrypting it with gzip using the "rsyncable" patch, which is available from the rsync sources.
ns4 is a command line configuration management tool that runs on a Unix or Windows based operating system. It allows the automated backup of node (i.e. routers and switches) configurations to an FTP/SFTP server or local media on a daily basis to create configuration archives. It can run ad-hoc commands on multiple nodes as well as custom scripts for automating complex tasks. It uses Perl and allows you to manipulate the output of commands using regular expressions within scripts. Configuration based cartridges are used to specify new node types, allowing the user to extend its functionality in a simple and dynamic way.
Unison is a file-synchronization tool for Unix and Windows. It allows two copies of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different hosts (or different disks on the same host), modified separately, and then brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other. Unison can deal with updates to both replicas of a distributed directory structure. Updates that do not conflict are propagated automatically. Conflicting updates are detected and displayed. Unison can communicate through a direct socket link or through an rsh/ssh tunnel. It uses network bandwidth efficiently.
VVV (Virtual Volumes View) is an application that catalogs the content of removable volumes such as CD and DVD disks for off-line searching. Folders and files can also be arranged in a single, virtual file system. Each folder of this virtual file system can contain files from many disks.
Manent is an algorithmically strong backup and archival program. It features efficient backup to anything that looks like storage. Currently it supports plain filesystems ("directories"), FTP, and SFTP. Planned are Amazon S3, optical disks, and email (SMTP and IMAP). It can work (making progress towards finishing a backup) over a slow and unreliable network. It can offer online access to the contents of the backup. Backed up storage is completely encrypted. Backup is incremental, including changed parts of large files. Moved, renamed, and duplicate files will not require additional storage. Several computers can use the same storage for backup, automatically sharing data. Both very large and very small files are supported efficiently. Manent does not rely on timestamps of the remote system to detect changes.
Zip is a compression and file packaging utility for Unix, VMS, DOS, OS/2, Windows 9x/NT, Amiga, Atari, Macintosh, BeOS, SMS/QDOS, MVS, VM/CMS, and others. It is analogous to a combination of the Unix commands tar(1) and compress(1) and is compatible with PKWARE's PKZIP and Nico Mak's WinZip. It's part of the Info-ZIP project.
LBackup is a simple backup system aimed at systems administrators who require reliable backups with minimum fuss. It is configured with configuration files, and the backup is started from the command line. It has been tested for over 10 years. Backups can be to local media, or to remote media via one or more networks. The networks may be private LANs, WANs, or sets of untrusted public networks such as the Internet.
SILVERCODERS DocStorage is a utility to improve document management. You can have one database for all invoices, guarantees, protocols, and other documents. DocStorage can extract plain text from documents in doc, XLS, PPT, PDF, RTF, ODT, ODS, ODP, docx, XLSX, PPTX, and many other formats. It can use an OCR engine to extract plain text even from scanned documents. It can perform global fulltext search in all documents regardless of format. It supports document versioning, document duplicate detection, document notes, and document signing. It provides full integration with software suites like Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.
