John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix, Windows, DOS, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash types commonly found on Unix systems, as well as Windows LM hashes. On top of this, lots of other hashes and ciphers are added in the community-enhanced version (-jumbo), and some are added in John the Ripper Pro.
Keep in Touch aims to be a secure IM system for multiple platforms. It supports its own XML-based protocol as well as ICQ and AIM (toc). It provides encrypted connections between the server and client aswell as encrypted chat on all supported networks. The client can store contacts on the server allowing users to keep their contact lists between different locations.
The LinuxClassLibrary is a growing set of classes which everyone needs every day, that runs on all types of *nix and also on Win32. Currently it is a library that works in the background (non GUI). Current features are character handling, file descriptors (sockets, file, etc.), a database system (like the Perl DBI), an event system, template collection classes (set, heap, hash, etc.), IPC, protocols, plug-ins, and images.
lcra renames filenames like COMMAND.COM and MAIN.C to more tasteful ones like command.com and main.c. It tries to guess which filenames are DOS-ish ones needing changing, and which are really meant to be uppercase. It will fix the contents of a directory and all subdirectories. The companion program nsra changes spaces in filenames to underscores.
libgeotiff is a library (normally built on top of libtiff) for reading and writing coordinate system information from/to GeoTIFF files. It includes CSV files for expanding projected coordinate system codes into full projections definitions and examples of transforming the definitions into a form that can be used with the PROJ.4 projections library. It also includes the sample applications listgeo (for dumping GeoTIFF information in readable form) and geotifcp (for applying geotiff tags to an existing TIFF or GeoTIFF file).
libmikmod is a portable sound library, which used to be packaged with the MikMod module player, but is now released independently. It is capable of playing samples as well as module files, using the OSS driver for output, as well as ALSA and EsounD. Supported module formats include MOD, S3M, XM, IT, MED, MTM, and 669, to name a few.
