BitchX is the premiere IRC (Internet Relay Chat) client. It originally was a modified version of the popular ircII client, and the features were eventually merged into the EPIC IRC client. BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling system that includes an interactive geometry editor, ray-tracing support for rendering and geometric analysis, path-tracing for realistic image synthesis, network distributed framebuffer support, and image and signal-processing tools.
Kannel is a WAP gateway. It attempts to provide this essential part of the WAP infrastructure freely to everyone so the market potential for WAP services, both from wireless operators and specialized service providers, will be realized as efficiently as possible. It also works as an SMS gateway for GSM networks. Almost all GSM phones can use it to send and receive SMS messages, so this is a way to serve many more clients than just those using a WAP phone. Kannel was among the first WAP gateways to be certified as WAP 1.1 compliant.
nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the latest USDA Nutrient Database for Standard Reference. This database contains values for vitamins, minerals, fats, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc., and includes the essential polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed as a percentage of the Daily Value, the familiar standard of food labeling in the United States, but also can be fully customized. Foods can be added from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.
OpenGUI is a high-level multi-platform, thread-safe C/C++ windowing and graphics library built upon a fast, low-level graphics kernel. It provides 2D drawing primitives and an event-driven windowing API for easy application development. The benefit of this library is speed, power, and a well-designed API with a narrow learning curve. It supports the BMP, JPG, TGA, PNG, TIFF, and PCX image file formats, color gradients, and TTF fonts. There is also basic XML file support and a smart persistence wrapper. OpenGUI supports the keyboard and mouse as event sources, the Linux framebuffer, SVGAlib, and XFree86/DGA2 (HW accelerated) as drawing backends, Mesa3D under Linux, and 8, 15, 16, and 32-bpp color modes.
pdnsd is a Proxy DNS server for Linux and FreeBSD that is designed to cope with unreacheable nameservers (e.g. because the dial-in link is not up) in a graceful manner to prevent DNS-dependent applications like Netscape from hanging. It has a permanent disk cache (i.e. the cache contents are saved in a file on exit) and supports parallel query and a wide variety of link uptests. It also has the ability to serve some types of locally defined records.
Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) which of the standard shells most resembles the Korn shell (ksh). It includes enhancements of many types, notably in the command-line editor, options for customising its behaviour, filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users feel more at home and extra features drawn from tcsh.
SaVi is satellite visualization software that lets you create, run, examine, and modify satellite orbits in two and three dimensions. Simulations of Iridium, Globalstar, Galileo, GPS, and other satellite constellations are included. SaVi requires Tcl and Tk on a system with Unix libraries. SaVi works well with the 3D renderer Geomview. Geomview is optional, though recommended for its 3D rendering capabilities.
