Cactus is a general, modular, parallel environment for solving systems of partial differential equations. The code has been developed over many years by a large international collaboration of numerical relativity and computational science research groups and can be used to provide a portable platform for solving any system of partial differential equations.
DINO is a realtime visualization program for structural biology data, including protein and nucleic-acid coordinates, molecular surfaces, electrostatic potentials, electron densities, surface topographs (from AFM), and MD trajectories. It supports PNG, PostScript and POVray (3.1g and megapov) output. Supported platforms are Linux/i386, Linux/PPC, IRIX, Sun, OSF1, and MacOS X.
EGO is a program to perform molecular dynamics simulations on parallel as well as on sequential computers. Supported parallel machines include the Hitachi SR8000, CRAY-T3E, IBM-SP2, Fujitsu VPP700, Parsytec-CC under PARIX, and inhomogeneous clusters of UNIX workstations under PVM or MPI. EGO also runs sequentially on any decent UNIX workstation, even Windows95/NT PC's (with a GNU-C compiler) can be used.
PLOTICUS is a command line utility for creating bar, line, pie, boxplot, scatterplot, sweep, heatmap, vector, timeline, Venn diagrams, and other types of charts and plots. ploticus is good for automated or just-in-time graph generation. It handles date, time, and categorical data nicely, and has some basic statistical capabilities. It can output to GIF, PNG, SVG, SWF, JPEG, PostScript, EPS, and X11. You can use convenient preset options or create complex scripts with rich and detailed color and style operations.
SigLab is a calculator designed for working on signals. You can use it to load, save, or generate signals, and do various operations on and between signals (addition, log, abs, sin, filtering, convolution, fft, correlation, etc.). Signal parts are constantly displayed. SigLab was designed to be able to handle the results of simulations or measurements. It can handle signals with millions of points, keeping in memory a small piece of each signal. To keep good performance, it caches in memory signal portions. SigLab was specifically designed for Ptolemy users. It will start at the end of a simulation and show all asked signals.
The Snack sound extension adds commands for sound play/record and sound visualization, e.g. waveforms and spectrograms. It supports in- memory sound objects, file based audio, streaming audio, WAV, AU, AIFF, and MP3 file formats, synchronous and asynchronous playback. The visualization canvas item types update in real-time and can output postscript. New commands and file formats can be added using the Snack C-API.
OpenSG is an Open Source scenegraph system. Its design goals include high performance, multithread-safe data handling, high flexibility, extensibility, and portability to Irix, Linux, and Windows. A number of computer graphics research institutions are actively working on moving the system beyond the state of the art to include features like clustering, subdivision surfaces, occlusion culling, and more.
SaVi is satellite visualization software that lets you create, run, examine, and modify satellite orbits in two and three dimensions. Simulations of Iridium, Globalstar, Galileo, GPS, and other satellite constellations are included. SaVi requires Tcl and Tk on a system with Unix libraries. SaVi works well with the 3D renderer Geomview. Geomview is optional, though recommended for its 3D rendering capabilities.
