Agora is a Web-based, threaded discussion tool, similar to Usenet newsgroups. Agora remembers each user's preferences, and allows threaded, unread-only browsing. It offers the ability to manage several different groups, with different themes, forums, and administrators for each group. Agora offers a basic Web-based ICQ client, as well as a Web-based notes system.
Beonex Communicator is Mozilla polished for end users. It contains Navigator, Mailnews, Composer, and ChatZilla. Navigator has support for key web standards and a convenient interface. For example, it eases searching the Internet, similar to Apple's Sherlock on Macintosh. The Mailnews client supports multiple IMAP, POP3 and/or news accounts for each user, so you can download and manage all your email from various accounts in one place and store them on your computer or the server. Beonex puts a strong emphasis on security, privacy, and netiquette, to protect the private or confidential information on your computer and to encourage fairness.
The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop an all-in-one Internet application suite. It contains an Internet browser, email and newsgroup client with an included Web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat, and Web development tools, and is sure to appeal to advanced users, Web developers, and corporate users. It uses much of the Mozilla source code powering such successful siblings as Firefox, Thunderbird, Camino, Sunbird, and Miro.
sTeam provides a technical platform which allows groups of students, lecturers, and any other groups to construct and arrange their individual and cooperative learning and working space. It consists of an object-oriented server connected to a database, and Web, Java, and other (FTP, SMTP, IRC, etc.) clients. The server is event-driven and manages all user objects as well as the communication between the connected clients. Features that were different from most other cooperation tools is the self-organisation and self-administration by the members within the virtual environment.
The WaMCom project tries to create versions of Mozilla that are more stable and correct than official Mozilla milestones. In order to achieve that, stable Mozilla releases are extended with backported correctness fixes from the ongoing Mozilla development. In addition, it contains some selected enhancements not yet available in the official Mozilla project, mostly in the areas of security and cryptography. Examples are APOP authentication for POP3 mail, SMTP/SSL, and support for crypto.signText().
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Internet is a German introduction to the technical aspects of the Internet. This book explains both the low-level protocols IP, ICMP, TCP, and UDP and the high-level protocols SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, NNTP, HTTP, Gopher, FTP, IRC, DICT, Finger, Daytime, DNS, and Whois.
GNUSTEP Live CD contains a lot of software for GNUstep, a free implementation of the OPENSTEP framework (which is also directly used in Mac OS X as Cocoa). It includes excellent applications for RAD (GORM and ProjectCenter). The CD is available for i486, AMD64, Apple Mac PowerPC, and Sun UltraSPARC computers.
