Agora is a Web-based, threaded discussion tool, similar to Usenet newsgroups. Agora remembers each user's preferences, and allows threaded, unread-only browsing. It offers the ability to manage several different groups, with different themes, forums, and administrators for each group. Agora offers a basic Web-based ICQ client, as well as a Web-based notes system.
The ausadmin project is designed to automate the maintenance of USENET newsgroup hierarchies (such as aus.*) and provide end-users with useful online information regarding all the newsgroups in the hierarchy as well as proposals (Request For Discussion and Call For Votes). It consists of a software package and a Web site package. The software implements Perl classes which maintain data structures representing existing newsgroups and proposals for new newsgroups, and the Web site is mostly dynamically generated by Perl CGI and PHP code which reads the data structures mentioned above. The Web site is intended to provide the user with as much information as possible about the newsgroups which are under management.
libbnr is an implementation of the Bayesian Noise Reduction (BNR) algorithm. All samples of text contain some degree of noise (data which is either intentionally or unintentionally irrelevant to accurate statistical analysis of the sample where removal of the data would result in a cleaner analysis). The Bayesian noise reduction algorithm provides a means of cleaner machine learning by providing more useful data, which ultimately leads to better sample analysis. With the noisy data removed from the sample, what is left is only data relevant to the classification. libbnr can be linked in with your classifier and called using the standard C interface.
Beonex Communicator is Mozilla polished for end users. It contains Navigator, Mailnews, Composer, and ChatZilla. Navigator has support for key web standards and a convenient interface. For example, it eases searching the Internet, similar to Apple's Sherlock on Macintosh. The Bookmark Manager can deal with huge collections of bookmarks and allows you to overview and sort them while you are surfing. If you want, you can track the latest headlines or webcams using the Sidebar. The Mailnews client supports multiple IMAP, POP3 and/or news accounts for each user, so you can download and manage all your email from various accounts in one place and store them on your computer or the server. Beonex puts a strong emphasis on security, privacy, and netiquette, to protect the private or confidential information on your computer and to encourage fairness.
Binbot is an easy-to-use newsreader for downloading binaries from Usenet. It was designed to browse large binary newsgroups efficiently, and to download huge files quickly. It supports all common article encodings, multiple servers, and NZB files. It also includes built-in access to Web-based Usenet search engines, and automatic unrar, unzip, and unsplit capabilities.
Bulletin Board News Server is a (relatively) quick NNTP interface for vBulletin. It reads directly from the MySQL DB and is therefore independent of the Web frontend. It doesn't alter read counters, but "forbidden names", name size limitations, user authentication, and anonymous posting (through a "usenet" user) are implemented. Registered users (either in the vboard or through a proprietary pw hash in the config file) can see the email addresses of others, as far as the owners permit it.
Claws Mail is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client. Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many features such as multiple accounts, POP3/SMTP/IMAP/NNTP support, OpenSSL, GnuPG, and LDAP support, a plugin system, spell checking, filtering, Actions, spam and virus filters, an address book, internationalization, and much more.
DBOX is a free communication package for ISPs. It supports a large number of message formats such as RFC/UUCP, ZConnect, Janus/Janus2, Alphabox, and GSbox. It is designed for large installations and includes a WWW package with an email/HTML gateway, an HTML online shop, support for POP3/IMAP4, and personal homepages with HTTP/FTP upload.
The DNEWS News Server is a (USENET) news server. Installing your own local news server software gives you complete control to create your own discussion forums for communication. DNews News Server software provides many features, including ease-of-use, reliability, and scalability.
