The GUIShell project is a collection of utilities facilitating the use of the GTK+ toolkit in shell scripts through the gtkshell utility. The ACE configuration environment provides sample scripts utilizing gtkshell for desktop utilities. rootcat provides the ability to display messages to the root window using Xft, allowing one to write status display scripts.
Viewglob is a filesystem visualization add-on for Bash and Zsh. It tracks the command line and environment of any number of interactive shells (local and remote). A graphical display follows the currently active terminal, listing the contents of directories relevant to its shell and highlighting file selections and potential name completions dynamically.
histbackup makes incremental backups of a directory tree in a set of directories named by dates, or date-time if the date already exists. Its companion script histbackup-prune controls the archive growth. The new backup is prepopulated by hardlinks of each file from the previous backup and then updated with rsync(1). This arranges that the only new content of each new backup is fresh copies of the changed files. In this way each backup directory is a full copy of the source directory but the disk space cost is that of an incremental backup. Because it uses rsync, it is possible to efficiently backup remote directories in this manner.
UniPackage is an alternative to distribution-specific packaging systems like dpkg and RPM. UniPackage is a simple system that works on any Linux distribution. UniPackage packages are tar.bz2 archives which contain a self-contained "AppDir" which can be moved anywhere in the filesystem without disturbing the application's installation. In most cases, this packaging does not require changes to the application's code. The issue of dependencies is avoided by bundling all required libraries in the AppDir.
Raven's System Stats allows users to collect detailed information about an operating system, including kernel architecture, distro, operating system, kernel version, glibc version, name of login shell, number of CPUs, CPU description, hyperthreading support, CPU MHz, CPU cache, bogomips, used and total RAM, used and total swap, filesystem size and type, uptime, unique users logged in, total login shells, currently running processes, total processes since bootup, load average, X resolution, and the number of X servers running.
flmkisofs is a very simple program for creating ISO images with the mkisofs program. It can create DVD video ISO images, Apple ISO filesystems, HFS/ISO filesystems, and El Torito or Generic bootable ISO filesystems. It fully supports versions 1 through 3 of the ISO filesystem standard, with RockRidge and Joliet extensions, and has partial UDF support.
Rudix features a world class collection of pre-compiled and ready to use Unix compatible software that is not available from a fresh installation of Mac OS X but is popular in other Unix environments. It includes utilities, programming languages, libraries and tools delivered as standard Mac OS X packages. It provides for system administrators and developers a powerful and easy to customize port system where you can retrieve, compile, and build native Mac OS X software for public distribution (both .pkg and .dmg).
