FVWM-Crystal aims to create an easy to use, pretty, but also powerful desktop environment for Linux or other Unix-like operating systems. It uses the following programs: FVWM as a window manager and "main core"; different ways to provide icons on the desktop including support for many file managers and custom commands; xterm, aterm, mrxvt, or urxvt as terminal emulators; MPD or XMMS2 as music players (there's built-in support for controlling these programs), and several other tools for different functions, like setting a wallpaper or taking screenshots.
MAC vendor check is a script that gathers MAC addresses in a network and creates a list of the vendor of each device. It can be use to quickly check whether strange devices are present on the network, especially if there is no dedicated management software (like Cisco Works) in use on the network.
XDroplets is a set of launchers that better integrate X11 programs with the MacOS X environment. X11 programs can be launched via the Finder or Dock. Documents can be opened directly in X11 programs by double-clicking or drag and drop. URLs can be forwarded from Mac apps to X11 programs. X11 is automatically launched if it is not already open. The distribution includes XDroplets Factory, a utility for generating your own custom X11 launchers.
tzls and tzx are commandline utilities for quickly unpacking or listing the contents of various types of common Unix archive files, which may be compressed in any of several ways. The supported compression types are bzip2, gzip, and compress. The supported archive types are tar, cpio, zip, rar, and arj. The tools are implemented as shell scripts, so no compilation is required.
fff and ffl are tools for searching for files and directories from the Unix shell with more integrated "shell-like" behaviour and simpler syntax than find(1), though find(1) is still used to perform the actual searches. In particular, there is no need to quote wildcards, and searches are case-insensitive. Matching results are shown one per line. fff displays full paths, and ffl relative paths. Detailed find(1) options can be appended to the fff/ffl command line if desired. These utilities are based entirely on shell aliases and functions, so no compliation is required.
