OSCore is a set of small utility classes that are useful in J2EE and even non-J2EE applications. Components include utilities to modify text, dates, primitive data, and XML. Also included is an EJB-compatible sequence generator that can easily be used by entity beans to provide unique IDs for primary keys.
SiteMesh was built upon the Java Servlet 2.3 API. It is a web-page layout system and web-application integration system to aid in creating large sites consisting of many pages for which a consistent look/feel, navigation, and layout scheme is required. It intercepts requests to any static or dynamically generated HTML page requested through the web-server, parses the page, obtains properties, and data from the content, and generates an appropriate final page with modifications to the original. It is ideally suited for Java based sites (particularly JSP) but can be dropped into any existing site that uses a Servlet engine including static, CGI, PHP, and ColdFusion generated pages.
OpenSymphony Workflow is a very flexible workflow system that can be plugged in to almost any need or existing application. Uses can range from document management to order processing to project management. It includes support for many different interface mechanisms (SOAP, EJB, Java Class) as well as persistence (EJB, JDBC, XMl, Ofbiz). It works in any J2EE container, including servlet containers (without EJB support).
P6Spy is an open source framework for applications to intercept and optionally modify database statements. The P6Spy distribution includes P6Log, which intercepts and logs the database statements of any application that uses JDBC. This application is particularly useful for developers to monitor the SQL statements produced by EJB servers, enabling the developer to write code that achieves maximum efficiency on the server. P6Spy is designed to be installed in minutes and requires no code changes.
The POI project contains several components for dealing with popular OLE 2 formats in Java. POIFS is a pure Java implementation of the OLE 2 Compound document format. HSSF is a pure Java implementation of Excel 97-2003 XLS file format based on POIFS. HSSF Serializer is a pure Java serializer for Cocoon 2 that uses the Gnumeric XML format to output XLS. Full documentation of the POIFS file format is included. It is useful if you wish to output reports in the Excel file format, or if you have existing XML documents that you need to get into Excel. HSLF provides initial support for PowerPoint 97-2003 and HWPF provides limited support for Word 97-2003. POIFS can be used to read any OLE2 stream.
