blinkperl is a telnet server (written in Perl) which plays a random (ASCII-Art) Blinkenlights-Movie if a telnet client connects. In a properly configured system, you do not need a 'usual' telnet server (because of the plaintext password transmission, ssh is better and uses another port), so why not play ASCII-Art Movies on the telnet port?

Spinner is useful for keeping telnet and ssh links from dropping due to inactivity. Many firewalls and some ISPs drop connections when they are perceived as idle. By having spinner running, the server is constantly sent a tiny amount of data over the link, preserving the connection. Spinner thus acts as a keep-alive. It displays a little "spinning" ASCII character in the top left corner of your terminal. It supports any terminal capable of handling VT100-style escape codes. Spinner can also function transparently by only sending null characters to the terminal. In this mode Spinner supports any terminal. It also has a mode called "Ghost in the Machine" in which you can use Spinner to write the spinner character to any TTY, not just your own.

The Linux Serial Sniffer allows you to sniff serial data up to 460Kbs via a Comtrol RocketPort or to 115Kbs using the standard ttyS0 and ttyS1 ports. Sniffed output can be captured to disk or displayed directly on screen. A user filter is included to assist specific customisation. The Linux Serial Sniffer can selectively operate in either a "ghost mode" where there is no data flow time impediments, or via a "capture and forward mode", where the user can flexibily intercept and extend the data stream to suit from either direction.

SMSTerm is an application that uses the ICQ2000 protocol to present you a shell on your mobile phone which allows you to interact with your computer from any mobile on a GSM network. It runs a shell on a pty, and allows you to directly send commands to the shell through SMS. Minimal authentication is done over SMS before spawning a shell and offering it to the user on the mobile phone. It is very useful for remote administration tasks, or checking out the status of the network, or just to run some small chores on your system while you are away. It uses Expect.pm in the background. SMSTerm also includes a script to send SMS through the ICQ network from the command line to any GSM mobile, and also includes a PHP script to set up a Web->SMS gateway.
