PHP Shell is a shell wrapped in a PHP script. It's a tool you can use to execute arbiritary shell-commands or browse the filesystem on your remote Web server. This replaces, to a degree, a normal telnet-connection. You can use it for administration and maintenance of your Web site using commands like ps, free, du, df, and more.

xtermcontrol enables dynamic control of XFree86 xterm properties. It makes it easy to change colors, titles, fonts, and the geometry of a running xterm, as well as to report the current settings of the properties. Window manipulations such as (de)iconify, raise and lower, maximize and restore, and reset are also supported. It also lets advanced users issue any xterm control sequence.

The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is resized.

It is based on parts of PuTTY by Simon Tatham and provides xterm-compatible terminal emulation, but does not require an X server. dvtm brings the concept of tiling window management, popularized by X11-window managers like dwm, to the console. As a console window manager, it tries to make it easy to work with multiple console based programs like vim, mutt, cmus, or irssi. dvtm is intended to be used where X11 isn't available or over SSH. In conjunction with dtach, it can be seen as a lightweight alternative to GNU screen.

Applications for AKFAvatar can be written in Lua, and there are interfaces for C, Objective C, C++, Free Pascal, and GNU Pascal. A number of ready-to-use applications and modules are provided, including a text viewer and a module that makes question-answer exercises. Luit is a filter that can be run between an arbitrary application and a UTF-8 terminal emulator. It will convert application output from the locale's encoding into UTF-8, and convert terminal input from UTF-8 into the locale's encoding. It is mainly used to support xterm.
