OMNeT++ is a C++-based object-oriented Discrete Event Simulation framework, primarily targeted at the simulation of communication networks and other parallel/distributed systems. It includes a graphical network editor, a network topology description language, a rich simulation class library, multiple execution environments (both GUI and command line), a result plotting tool, detailed documentation, many sample simulations, and much more.
GNU Ferret (formerly known as GerWin) is a free entity relationship and reverse engineering tool. It aids you in creating data models and implementing them in a relational database. You can draw your data model via an entity-relation diagram, generate the tables from it (another graphical diagram), and then generate the SQL that creates such relational tables. Several SQL dialects are supported (for most popular free software database systems) and it is very easy to patch the sources to support more.
SndBite is a specialized audio editor designed for breaking large recordings into smaller components with great efficiency. Its principal intended application is in linguistic research where it is often desirable to put each word or sentence into a separate file before further processing. It is also useful for measuring pause durations. Its features include multiple simultaneous views of the waveform at different resolutions, the ability to position window edges at transitions between sound and silence, automated setting of cut points at zero-crossings, automatic filename generation easily controlled by the user, and optional automatic playback on window motion. It is scriptable and may be run in batch mode without the GUI.
The BRU Backup and Restore Utility features data-verified backups, scalability, configurability, and ease of use for Linux and Unix. Versions are available for Linux, FreeBSD, and most UNIX variants. It works via an X11 interface, command line interactive, or through a scripted, scheduled (CRON) mechanism.
din is a software musical instrument and audio synthesizer. Bezier curves are used to draw and sculpt waveforms, create gating and modulation (FM and AM) patterns, and create delay feedback and volume patterns. You can also create an unlimited number of drones and sculpt their waveforms. It uses JACK to output audio, and supports MIDI, OSC and IRC bot for input. din can be extended and customized with Tcl scripts.
e4Graph is a C++ library that allows programs to store graph-like data persistently and to access and manipulate that data efficiently. With e4Graph, you can arrange your data in the most natural form that reflects the relationships between its parts, rather than having to force it into a table-like format. The e4Graph library also allows you to concentrate on the relationships you want to represent, and not on how to store them in a database. You can modify data items, and add and remove connections and relationships between pieces of data on the fly. e4Graph allows you to represent an unlimited number of different connections between pieces of data, and your program can selectively manipulate the data according to the relationships it cares about, not having to know about other connections represented in the data set.
