ESP is a secure, automated system that analyzes electronic medical record (EMR) data to identify and report patients with notifiable diseases to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The growing use of electronic medical record systems (EMRs) permits efficient re-use of data already being collected by clinicians during routine private practice, offering an unparalleled opportunity to improve public health practice. Information held in EMR systems includes diagnoses, procedures, laboratory test, and treatment information, as well as patient demographic data. This software permits secure, simple, and robust messaging from electronic medical record systems to public health authorities.
FreeMED is a Web-based medical records (EMR) and patient management system with a printing system, patient scheduling, an HL7 interface, a billing system, XML-RPC Web services, and many other features. It has an extensible modular architecture, allowing it to be customized based on individual practices without having to rewrite core components of the system. It is HIPAA compliant.
ToutDoux is a project manager for GNOME. The approach of data manipulation is abstract (database free). It's extensible with plugins. Most tasks are and will be subcontracted with commandline frontends. The file format is XML (including a schema, plugins parameters, and datatables).
SIDB (Scientific Image Database) is a Web-driven database for (scientific) images. Entry of image meta-data is facilitated through the use of user-definable templates. Users have complete control over who else may see the submitted image and data. SIDB offers various views on the actual image data. Thumbnail plus meta-data can be printed, and multiple thumbnails can be combined in galleries. A freeware version of the Huygens software (http://www.svi.nl) can be used to generate projections from 3-D images (most confocal microscope image formats are supported), as well as MPEG movies, showing the individual layers from the 3-D images.
Electronic Design Automation - Index is a system that can be used in the electronic world to keep track of your: Schematic, Printed Circuit Board, Front Plate, and Programmable Logic Unit numbers. This is very useful when you have drawn many electronic schematics and PCBs in an EDA program such as Eagle, gEDA, Protel, or Orcad. It's also useful if you've created a front plate layout in an image editor such as GIMP, Corel Draw, or Photoshop.
PhpLabware is a database system with features similar to Filemaker and Access, but is completely Web-based. Relational databases can be defined through the Web interface and extended with PHP plugin code. User and group access is regulated at the record level. It was written by and for life sciences research scientists, but should be generally useful as a Web-based front end to SQL databases.
Wifimap is a Web-based application that graphically documents the organisation and growth of a wireless network community. The map is composed of numerous square cells that are recombined to display the required area. Users can start with just a few cells to cover their area, and can access different areas of the network by scrolling through the cells. New cells can be easily added using a built in editor. Cells can be added at different zoom levels allowing users to zoom in and out of the map. The design makes it very fast, and it can be run on low powered servers. Wireless nodes can be added or edited with a few mouse clicks. Links between the nodes are automatically drawn based on the data entered for each node, and colours are used to represent different wireless protocols.
Bumblebee is a system for managing instruments and other resources (e.g. analytical equipment) that must be shared between a number of users. Bumblebee is designed to be more efficient than a wall calendar or a whiteboard for both users and administrators. Bumblebee is also able to generate reports of resource usage with breakdowns by user, research group, and research project.
