KDE-Services extends the features of Dolphin's right click menu in the KDE graphical environment. It allows you to play and convert between several video formats, extract audio from movies and convert them to MP3, convert audio to MP3, securely send a file or directory to Mailx as an email, send files to Thunderbird as attachments, burn and checksum ISO images, execute scripts and applications, get low-level information on video files, build ISO images from folders, replace text, search, SSH, use Midnight Commander, use system, network, and backup/restore tools, use Samba, extract subtitles from MKV video, multiplex subtitles into MPEG-2 videos, and work with YouTube, DVDs, multimedia, GPG. You can add a timestamp prefix to a filename or directory name. A paranoid shredder, an HTTP publisher, graphic tools, and package tools are included.
KShutDown is an advanced shutdown utility for KDE. It has four main commands: Turn Off Computer (logout and halt the system), Restart Computer (logout and reboot the system), Lock Session (lock the screen using a screen saver), and End Current Session (end the session and logout the user). It features time and delay options, command line support, panel applet, and sounds.
JOrtho is a spell checker for Java. The library works with any JTextComponent from the Swing framework and checks as you type. The dictionary is based on the free Wiktionary.org, and is applicable for multiple languages. You can select the spell checking language via a context menu. The Features of JOrtho are the highlighting of potentially wrongly spelled words, a context menu with suggestions for correct forms of the word, and a context menu with option to change the checking language. At the moment there are nine languages for spell checking available: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Polish, Dutch, and Arabic.
gjots lets you organize text notes in a convenient, hierarchical way. It can be used for notes, jottings, bits and pieces, recipes, and even PINs and passwords, using encryption. It can also be used to "mind-map" larger compositions like manuals, Web pages, articles, etc. It is a bit like the KDE program "kjots", but uses the GTK library and supports a hierarchy of folders. Files can be output to HTML with an automatic table of contents or to docbook XML. Encryption is supported with ccrypt(1), gpg(1), and openssl(1), so that musings can be kept private.
di is a disk information utility that displays everything that df does and more. It features the ability to display your disk usage in whatever format you prefer. It also checks the user and group quotas, so that the user sees the space available for their use, not the system wide disk space. It is designed to be highly portable across many platforms and is great for heterogenous networks.
Sentinella is a desktop application that monitors your system activity and, when a condition is met, takes the action that you've chosen. While monitoring your CPU, memory, hard drive, and network usage, Sentinella can be programmed to take specific actions when setpoints for utilization or time are met. It can power off, reboot, or hibernate your system, kill an active process, throw an alarm, or execute any command. Sentinella integrates perfectly with the main desktop enviroments (KDE, GNOME, XFCE, and others) and works under many Unix systems.
