GLAME (GNU/Linux Audio Mechanics) is meant to be the GIMP of audio processing. It is designed to be a powerful, fast, stable, and easily extensible sound editor for Linux and compatible systems. It has full support for non-destructive editing including undo/redo and applying LADSPA effects. Its supported platforms are Linux, BSD, IRIX, and OS X. It uses guile and libxml, and the GNOME libs available is highly recommended. MP3 and Ogg files can be processed if libmad and libvorbisfile are installed.
SoundTracker is a pattern-oriented music editor (similar to the DOS program 'FastTracker'). Samples are lined up on tracks and patterns which are then arranged to a song. Supported module formats are XM and MOD; the player code is the one from OpenCP. A basic sample recorder and editor is also included.
Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator (UADE) plays most Amiga music file formats by simulating Amiga hardware and software. It plays approximately 200 Amiga music file formats. It provides a command line tool for playing, but it also provides music player plugins for XMMS and Audacious. For other music players, there is a FUSE filesystem that transparently converts Amiga songs to WAV files.
VLC media player is a multimedia player, framework, streamer, and encoder. It can play inputs like files, network streams, DVDs, audio CDs, Blu-Rays, capture devices, and screens. It can play most audio and video codecs and formats (MPEG 1/2/4, H264, VC-1, DivX, WMV, Vorbis, AC3, AAC, MKV, etc.), but can also be used to convert to different formats and/or send streams through the network.
Paranormal is an extremely customizable visualization plugin for XMMS, based (conceptually) on Winamp's AVS plugin. Its goal is to be as flexible as possible by providing a number of 'actuators' that perform various tasks involved in generating an image. These actuators can then be combined to create a nearly unlimited number of effects.
NP3 Music Player is a standalone music player, which has a distinct separation between client and server. It consists of a daemon, which plays the files (through XMMS input plugins), and is controlled by a client. It features an event system, which enables excellent support for sophisticated clients.
GImageView is a GTK+ based image viewer. It supports tabbed browsing, thumbnail table views, directory tree views, drag and drop, reading the thumbnail cache of other famous image viewers, and a flexible user interface. It also support movies using the Xine library and MPlayer, and supports images in compressed archive formats like tar.gz, zip, and lha.
DSP implements several low-level digital signal processing (DSP) primitives accelerated, when available, by the Intel/AMD SIMD instruction sets MMX/SSE/SSE2. Portable C versions are provided for compatibility on non-IA32 machines. Routines are provided to compute 16-bit integer dot products (FIR filtering, correlation); sum-of-squares (signal energy measurement), and peak sample detection (for automatic gain control, etc.).
A simple program to help novice guitarists tune a guitar more quickly (and better).
