Aphid (the Apache/Perl HTTP Installation Daemon) provides a quick facility for compiling and installing the Apache Web server with support for SSL via mod_ssl, and with the embedded Perl interpreter provided by mod_perl. It downloads, compiles, and installs the software into the directory of your choice. Aphid places emphasis on providing an intuitive, browser-based interface and keeping a tiny distribution footprint. To date Aphid has been tested on Rehat Linux 6 and 6.2, FreeBSD 4.0, and Solaris 2.6 and 7.

BootRoot creates a two-disk Linux system. The lilo method creates a boot disk with lilo, a kernel and an initrd image; the root disk can contain either a gzip- or bzip2-compressed filesystem.

breloc does binary edits on files to relocate compiled-in prefixes, padding with extra slashes to make up for differences in the length of the prefixes. In order for breloc to be most effective, a binary package should be configured with a prefix that has a lot of extra slashes at the end of it. beloc is distributed as part of the nsbd package, but it is also quite useful independently.

cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs/DVDs with a CDR/CDRW/DVD/BluRay recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD/DVD/BD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives; audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs; full multi-session support; CD-RWs, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW, BD-R/BD-RE; and TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD/DVD/BD writers.

epkg is a package manager which uses the Encap Package Management System, a method for flexibly handling installation and management of third-party software on a Unix system. Encap places each package in its own subdirectory, then automatically manages symlinks to their appropriate places in /usr/local. The Encap package format includes features like postinstall scripts and prerequisite checking. Other features include builtin tar/gzip extraction, optional builtin FTP and HTTP support, transaction logging, and the ability to automatically upgrade a package to the latest version.
