Vamos project allows computers to run software directly from the network, without installations. The software is stored on servers and is centrally maintained without the user's effort or attention. The user just needs to run applications, and the necessary bits are streamed automatically to its computer. The execution of the software is local, allowing high responsiveness and distributed computational load.
gxInstall is a software installer for Linux. It allows you to create installation packages that are self-extracting, support multiple languages, support uninstallation, create menu items and a desktop icon, and have an overhead size of only 50 kb. It has GUI (GTK 2) support, and is completely script-based, flexible, and easy to use. It does not use RPM, pkg, etc.
cerbeRun is a software runner. The applications are stored inside a .tar (version 0.3 will use the ISO9660 format) file renamed with the extension .run. cerbeRun's format allows you to switch between different architectures using an .xml file, in which are specified different rules for different archictures. This is all done in user space without root access.
With 'nixstaller' you can easily make installers for Unix-like systems. Some of the project goals: support for many different platforms, support for different (optional) frontends used by the installer (currently FLTK, ncurses, GTK 2, and Qt are planned), ease of use for the install creator and the end user, different ways of installing (extract files to a location, compile software on the user's system, and maybe even integration for the package manager running on the user's system). Nixstaller can be fully translated and is programmed in C++ and sh.
MacPorts makes the world of open source software available to your Mac. There are over 5600 software titles ("ports"), each one installable with a single command. This is probably the biggest, most up to date open source software collection for Mac OS X. MacPorts works much like the ports collections of the major BSD operating systems.

toolwrap is a tool for managing package installation that extendes the functionality of Stow or Tinypackage. It makes it possible for different releases of a given application to coexist on a single workstation or be deployed on a file server. Policies files allow end-users to select which package is used when a tool is invoked from the command line.
