PIKT is cross-categorical, multi-purpose software for monitoring and configuring computer systems, administering networks, organizing system security, and much more. PIKT is intended primarily for system monitoring, and secondarily for configuration management, but its versatility and extensibility evoke many other wide-ranging uses. PIKT consists of a sophisticated, feature-rich file preprocessor; an innovative scripting language with unique labor-saving features; a flexible, centrally directed process scheduler; a customizing file installer; a collection of powerful command-line extensions; and other useful tools.
changedfiles is a framework for filesystem replication, security monitoring, and/or automatic file transformations--essentially any application where you'd poll files or directories and either do something to them or send them somewhere else (or both). The difference is that the kernel tells you when they change instead of you having to poll. It's an easy real time FTP push mirror to one or multiple sites. It's also a full fledged MySQL client, so you can do realtime database operations (for example, batch imports). It consists of two parts: a kernel module (works with Linux kernel version 2.4) which reports to a device whenever a file on the filesystem changes, and a daemon which runs in user space and can be configured to do almost any action when a change to a file matching the one of the patterns it looks for is reported. The kernel module is SMP safe and has been tested on Intel, PowerPC, and Alpha.
big:eye is a system management server that was developed for enterprise IT infrastructures. It manages faults, performance, inventories, and configurations through an impressive user interface. It produces maps through auto-discovery, and monitors faults, Cisco, Motorola, and SNMP devices.
pkg_db.pl generates a pretty-printed HTML list and statistics of packages installed via NetBSD pkgsrc. It creates 3 HTML files: one index, containing a list of all installed packages with short descriptions, one with the detailed description of the package, and one with a list of installed files. It requires pkg_info.
uranos is a system that supports unattended installation of several varieties of Linux (kickstart, preseed, autoyast) and Windows (2000, XP, 2003, 2003 R2, Vista, 7, 8, 2008, 2012). It includes features for inventory, software management, DHCP-LDAP, DNS-LDAP, PHP-SSH, syslog-ng, switch management, an LDAP browser, PXE management, central cron management, and license management.
Advisory Check is a program that reads security advisories for you. It gathers security advisories using RSS, RDF, or XML feeds, compares them against the installed software, and alerts you if you're vulnerable. A wide variety of package managers can be queried to detect installed software. Remote systems can be monitored by using the integrated SSH, Windows-RPC, and Nmap support.
Spacewalk is a Linux and Solaris systems management solution. It allows you to inventory your systems (hardware and software information), install and update software on your systems, collect and distribute your custom software packages into manageable groups, provision (Kickstart) your systems, manage and deploy configuration files to your systems, monitor your systems, provision virtual guests, and start/stop/configure virtual guests.
