flashboot for OpenBSD is a set of makefiles, scripts, and support tools to build an OpenBSD image suitable for booting from read-only media, such as flash memory. The default image (smaller than 5Mb) is an image for a firewall/router with support for IPsec, SSH, IPv4 and IPv6 packet filtering, DHCP (client and server), and PPPoE. INSERT (the Inside Security Rescue Toolkit) aims to be a multi-functional, multi-purpose disaster recovery and network analysis system. It boots from a credit card-sized CD-ROM and is basically a stripped-down version of Knoppix. It features good hardware detection, fluxbox, emelfm, links-hacked, ssh, tcpdump, nmap, chntpwd, and much more. It provides full read-write support for NTFS partitions (using ntfs-3g), and the ClamAV virus scanner (including a fairly recent signature database and a GUI). It provides partition handling with gParted and also has a network boot facility.

apt-got is a customizable mirror engine. It works like a highly specialized proxy. It employs several pluggable modules that are customized for specific jobs. The first available module builds and supervises a partial (or full) Debian mirror which is populated on-the-fly by apt-get requests. There is also a simple mirror module that can be used to mirror source directories or even (static) Web pages. For increased performance on already-cached files, it employes its own Apache module. It supports customized mirroring algorithms.
