Lifebox is a fast, lightweight, social photo and video gallery application that is designed to organize large amounts of media. It is able to differentiate between original and modified photos so you can upload your entire library to your server and highlight your favorite photos and videos into albums to share with friends. Lifebox also makes a distinction between albums and rolls, so a single photo or video can be part of multiple albums but only one roll. It extracts data from EXIF tags and XMP sidecars, making it compatible with the data from programs like Adobe Lightroom, Picassa, and iPhoto. Lifebox is social in that people and objects can be tagged, and they will receive an email when this happens. It supports authentication, so you can control who has access to what photo.

bashgal is simple bash shell script which generates HTML thumbnail galleries using the "convert" and "jhead" command-line utilities. It does not need to run a server-side script to view image galleries because everything is pre-rendered. The fixed-height thumbnails fill the entire browser efficiently. Multiple image sizes can be switched between by the user at any time (and remembered, without cookies or JavaScript). Thumbnails are "sprited" using CSS to produce fewer server round trips and overall smaller data transfer. Vertical images are auto-rotated and EXIF data is extracted from JPEG headers.

fastcgi-gallery is a Web gallery based on Apache::Gallery, but is hacked for usage with Perl FastCGI scripts. Therefore, this version is about 10x quicker (with cache turned on) than Apache::Gallery. With the best template system (Template-Toolkit) you can customize your gallery as you wish; for example, you can create a multi-language gallery. A database is not used; everything is stored in files. Output and generated thumbnails are cached for speed optimization.
