motion uses a video4linux device for detecting movement. It makes snapshots of the movement which can be converted to MPEG movies in realtime (or later for low CPU usage), making it usable as an observation or security system. It can take actions like sending out email and SMS messages when detecting motion.
PLIB is a set of libraries to write games and other realtime interactive applications that are 100% portable across a wide range of hardware and operating systems. It's used by Majik3D, FlightGear, and others, and includes libraries for GUI widgets, sound replay, geometry, scene graph, joystick, and fonts/text.
SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) is a protocol which provides secure conferencing services in the Internet. It can be used to send any kind of messages, in addition to normal text messages. This includes multimedia messages like images, video, and audio stream. All messages in the SILC network are encrypted and authenticated, and messages can also be digitally signed. SILC protocol supports AES, SHA-1, PKCS#1, PKCS#3, X.509, OpenPGP, and is being developed in the IETF. The software is delivered as SILC Client for end users, SILC Server for system administrators, and SILC Toolkit for application developers.
ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable, permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives. ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones. All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web interface.
Motiontrack is a set of tools that detects motion between two images. It is able to successfully distinguish random flicker from real object movement by applying a set of filters to the images, and can optionally ignore given colors and/or image regions. The roadmap provides for being able to identify objects by pattern detection and AI routines. Currently, this part is able to turn line-art images into ASCII-art text and auto-align images which are slightly staggered or contorted. This might also be useful to correct the perspective of image sources from different 3D angles.
Eckbox is van Eck Phreaking tool that interprets a radio signal emanating from a computer's monitor to recreate the image (in black and white) that is displayed on it. It could be used as a valuable security tool for testing otherwise secure computers or for developing hardware and software to counter this type of remote shoulder-surfing. It is not intended to be used for illegal purposes, and includes information on the hardware required.
