Apsfilter is a magic printfilter, allowing you to print different document types "automagically" without having to convert them manually into something which is understood by your printer. Apsfilter is a mature and powerful printing solution for any flavor of Unix running lpd or LPRng. It supports the latest GhostScript version and 3rd-party printer drivers (such as hpijs, ijs, hpdj, pcl3, and gimp-print). It autodetects lots of file, archive, and compression types. It supports printing on local as well as on Appletalk, Unix, and Windows remote printers. General and "per printer-queue" based config files allow you to configure the printer for your needs. The lpr command line options allow you to change printing parameters like print quality, orientation, duplex mode, etc. "on the fly" without having to edit any config file. A SETUP script helps you to test various supported ghostscript drivers prior installation, makes the necessary entries in /etc/printcap, creates spool directories, and creates apsfilter default config files as needed. A handbook in HTML is available. Several tools are also included: "aps2file" allows you to print to a file via apsfilter, "apspreview" previews files as generated by apsfilter using gv and friends, and "apsfilter-bug" assists you in doing bug and problem reports.
The mgetty package contains an intelligent getty for allowing logins over a serial line (such as through a modem) and receiving incoming faxes. The companion program sendfax is used for sending faxes from the commandline or from other applications. The third main component is vgetty/vm which can be used with a voice-capable modem to implement an answering machine, a voice menu system, and similar things.
sudosh can be used as a default login shell or a filter that takes advantage of PTY devices in order to sit between the user's keyboard and a program, in this case a shell. It was designed specifically to be used in conjunction with sudo, and allows the execution of a root or application shell with logging. It is basically a VCR and will record root shell sessions and also has the ability to play back the sessions as they were originally recorded. It records all input/output, keyboard input, and timing information so that the session can be played back in the original format.
Simplebackup is a cross-platform backup program. It reads a configuration file, then it builds a compressed file for each of your backup directories or files on your backup list, and places the compressed files into another location. For example, this location can be a network mapped drive in Windows, an NFS mounted drive in Unix, another hard disk, an FTP server, an SFTP (Secure FTP) server, an HTTP (WebDAV) server, one or more email accounts, or a tape device (Unix only). This will duplicate your information, doing the so called "backup".
C-Kermit is a combined serial and network communication software package offering a consistent, medium-independent, cross-platform approach to connection establishment, terminal sessions, file transfer, character-set translation, numeric and alphanumeric paging, and automation of communication tasks. Recent versions include FTP and HTTP clients as well as an SSH interface, all of which can be scripted and aware of character-sets. It supports built-in security methods, including Kerberos IV, Kerberos V, SSL/TLS, and SRP, FTP protocol features such as MLSD, and source-code parity with Kermit 95 2.1 for Windows and OS/2.
XamimeLT is an email scanner which encapsulates your existing sendmail or Postfix server setup. It scans both incoming and outgoing email. It can scan for email viruses, unwanted file types (eg. EXE, BMP, MPEG) and file names (eg. prettypark.exe), spam, and almost anything you care to search for in an email. It can also be used to scan for text snippets within emails and to insert disclaimers into outbound emails. XamimeLT was formerly known as "Inflex".
