SANE stands for "Scanner Access Now Easy" and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, handheld scanner, video and still cameras, framegrabbers, etc.). The SANE standard is public domain and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The source code is written for UNIX (including Linux) and is available under the GPL, but commercial applications and backends are welcome. The package contains the libraries, net support, and scanimage. The X frontends xscanimage and xcam can be found in sane-frontends.
This package contains frontends to SANE ("Scanner Access Now Easy"), including xscanimage, xcam, and scanadf. Xscanimage is a GTK-based application for scanning images that can also be used as a GIMP-plugin. Xcam is used to get images from cameras supported by SANE. Scanadf is a command line frontend especially suited for scanners equipped with automatic document feeders (ADF).
pad sequential filenames so alphabetical order matches numerical order. It automatically determines the necessary integer field width, treats filenames with different prefixes or suffixes separately, removes redundant padding, and is reasonably efficient, even for thousands of names.
flscan (Fast Light Scan) is a new frontend for the SANE libraries and dlls. It can rotate images by 90° both clockwise and counter clockwise, flip images both vertically and horizontally, correct the horizontal aspect of the image, save aquired images in JPEG or in PNG format, let you view images even at full size after they've been acquired, and potentially supports all the SANE backends.
Kooka, part of the kdegraphics package, is a raster image scan program which supports OCR. It is based on the scanner access library SANE. It supports scanning in different modes and resolutions, preview, scan area selection, and an image save assistant which features a gallery organised in a treeview with a comfortable image viewer and thumbnail support. OCR is supported through GOCR, an open source project. Kooka uses the libkscan, which offers scanner support to all KDE applications.
Morena is a Java framework that allows a Java program to acquire an image from a scanner or camera. To communicate with the hardware, it uses standard interfaces: Twain for MS Windows and Mac OS X and Sane for a number of Unix platforms (AIX, BeOS, Darwin, FreeBSD, HP-UX, Linux, NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS2, Solaris, Unixware).
Garbure is a collection of dedicated distributions. Each distribution provides carefully selected tools for a specific target domain, and is completed with examples and documentation. The set of distributions forms an entity, but each distribution works also on its own. All elements are arranged in the same way for each distribution.
