Erebus is a 2D real-time role-playing game. Though in its early stages, it is already playable with three quests. It is a classic point-n-click style RPG, with dungeons to explore, enemies to fight, NPCs to talk to, sub-quests to complete, scenery to interact with, weapons, treasure, and other items to find.
EPIC is a multiplayer strategy roleplaying game in which you are pitted against or work with real people in various fantasy settings called modules. It starts with Conan and Malazan modules. Third parties can create new modules. The system supports adventures, armies, characters, assassins, guilds/buildings, very rich magic (over 400 spells) and over 2,000 items, in a realistic fantasy world . The game focuses on minimum game time but the maximum amount of time thinking about the game and your cunning plans with your allies. There's no farming or repetition. The game format encourages the creation of epic fantasy tales. Part of a player's turn is in real time, but movement and military orders are done as submitted orders which are processed as your turn.
Government Sanctioned is a custom-developed text-based RPG (i.e., MUD). New players enter the world of Government Sanctioned as covert agents working for a super-secretive government organization colloquially known as "the agency". Players have a choice of six different roles spanning 19 unique professions. Whether you like stealthy, clandestine operations, the use of subterfuge and guile to infiltrate enemy organizations, or full-blown military actions, the agency has a spot for you. Players are empowered to deeply customize their character through numerous differentiation mechanisms. Character backgrounds lay the foundation for character abilities and are further defined through their cover occupation and agency department affiliation. To put a fine point on character customization, the skill and feat system provides an extensive array of options to tweak the character to suit your style of game play. The skill system boasts over 35 different skill families with around 50 different skills and checks. Skill points are gained upon professional level advancement and can be spent any way the player chooses. With 19 feat trees and over a hundred diverse feats (with new feats being added regularly), your capability for customization is endless.
Open RPG Maker is a 2D RPG creation utility, similar to the popular RPG Maker series. It is mostly based on RPG Maker 2003, but with some added features and more advanced usability. It allows users to create games similar to the original Final Fantasy games, such as FF5 and FF6, though it also supports Zelda-like games. Compared to the RPG Maker series, it supports additional image and music file formats, and 32x32 tiles of up to 24bpp instead of 16x16 8bpp.
Naev is a 2D space trading and combat game, in a similar vein as Escape Velocity. Naev is played from a top-down perspective, featuring fast-paced combat, many ships, a large variety of equipment, and a large galaxy to explore. The game is highly open-ended, letting you proceed at your own pace.
LambdaRogue is a rogue-like role playing game set in a strange underworld. Men and the species of Drekh'nar once lived peacefully together on Earth, both not far away from reaching the stars with spaceships. IceUtils is a suite of command line tools designed to make creating a role playing game world and playing through that world an easier task. Although some of the tools are specific to the Iron Crowns Rolemaster role playing system, other tools can be used for just about any game environment in existence.
RPGRobotAlive is an aide to a role playing games. It displays a board with walls and representations of the players that you can move around the dungeon. You can also place treasure or monsters in the dungeon. The program only keeps track of the locations of things, so you have to apply the rules of the game yourself to determine what happens in an encounter between the players and the contents of the dungeon. This software is generic and can be helpful with many different kinds of role playing games.
