PCGen is a Java (1.5+) -based character generator aimed at supporting OGL role playing games like those based upon the SRD, RSRD, and MSRD (such as Dungeons and Dragons). It is highly configurable by the users, allowing the Game Master to add or remove races, classes, feats, etc., and to implement house rules such as differing class or race restrictions. Level advancement is also supported, with configurable progressions of feats, skills and ability score bonuses. For "at the table" support, PCGen offers a set of GM plugins. Further options allow the user to produce a customized character sheet, which can then be viewed in, or printed from, the user's WWW browser. It can also produce a "party" sheet with the information needed by the GM.
microQuestMaker64 is a native Commodore 64 application that makes it easy to design small text adventure games in the tradition of "Zork" or the legendary "Cave" adventure. It will run in an emulator as well as on native C64 hardware. At the moment, it supports up to 100 rooms and 30 objects within a single game. Although the program is still incomplete and under development, you can already edit rooms, define objects, and test-run your game. Game data is stored in the Commodore "REL" file format, allowing random access of records. Coding is done utilizing the cc65 cross-compiler.
The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life, form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.
Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/single player first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS. Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features and eye candy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.
