Load is a utility for Web application and SOAP-based Web services performance and scalability testing. It features a scripting language and a library of test objects for the creation of intelligent agents that drive the Web application or SOAP-based Web service. Running hundreds of agents concurrently shows how your software performs in production environments. Load is a Java application that runs on Linux, Solaris, NT, Win2000, and Macintosh. While Load continues to be maintained, the next generation is the TestMaker program.
SLOCCount is a suite of programs for counting physical source lines of code (SLOC) in possibly large software systems. It can count physical SLOC for a wide number of languages. It can take a large set of files and automatically categorize their types using a number of different heuristics, and also comes with analysis tools.
Clint is a test bed for static source code checking, designed to check C++. It is designed to detect common programming errors and warn the programmer about these errors. It can warn you about errors or potential problems like header files not being protected. It is very extendible and has a Python plugin so you can write rules in Python.
Flawfinder searches through source code looking for potential security flaws. It will provide a list of potential security flaws, sorted by risk, with the most potentially dangerous flaws shown first. This risk level depends not only on the function, but on the values of the parameters of the function. Flawfinder ignores text inside comments and strings.
Grouch is a system for describing and enforcing a Python object schema. An object schema describes every class in a collection of objects -- in particular, it specifies the type of every instance attribute of every class. Grouch includes a type language for specifying attribute types, a tool to parse specially-formatted class docstrings and output a complete object schema, and another tool for walking a persistent object graph and ensuring that every scrap of data in it conforms to the object schema extracted from your class docstrings. The API for defining, querying, and enforcing types is fairly complete and well-documented, so you can use Grouch's type system in other ways as well.
PushToTest TestMaker is a distributed test automation platform for application performance management and monitoring. It repurposes tests written in Selenium, soapUI, TestGen4Web, and Mozmill, and unit tests in Java, .NET, Jython, Groovy, PHP, Ruby, and Perl into functional tests, load and performance tests, and business service monitors. TestMaker is ideal for Web applications, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) applications, Rich Internet Application (RIA using Ajax, Flex, Flash) and Business Process Management (BPM) applications.
pyNMS is a set of Python modules for network management, network testing, systems management, and general use. It contains a nearly complete implementation of SNMPv2c, a SMI/MIB package, and a MIB "compiler". There are many others, such as a telnet/console access class, XML tools, an IPv4 class, etc. There is, unfortunately, little documentation, and not everything works properly yet, but they work well enough to be useful for many things.
Marathon is a GUI test tool that allows you to play and record scripts against a Java Swing UI. It's written in Java, and uses Python and Ruby as its scripting language (the emphasis being on an extremely simple, readable syntax that customers/testers/analysts feel comfortable with). Marathon includes a recorder, editor, player, and debugger to simplify working with test scripts.
