DaisyDuck provides the ability to playback Daisy 2.02 online books and local books (reachable directly on a physical media). The interface is simplified for quick handling, even for people with a handicap like partially sighted persons. Intuitive keyboard shortcuts provide an easy way to access the functionalities of the application and to navigate within books (by chapter and by paragraph). DaisyDuck automatically saves the position where the playback of a book was interrupted. Then, when this book is reloaded, the playback begins at the last position without any action of the listener.
Neurocognitive Linguistics is an approach to linguistics developed by Sydney Lamb that uses relational networks to model what the brain actually does when it handles language. Neurocognitive Linguistics Lab ("NeuroLab" for short) is a program that allows you to experiment with relational networks using a convenient GUI and record the results of your experiments in tabular form.
Unibas is a program (a "fat client" of PostgreSQL) to manage frequently used entity types. Its mission is to create a relational database that is both human- and machine-readable (semantic) to collect data about people, documents (books, songs, movies, etc.), products (CDs, DVDs, etc.), fictional characters, events, places and other entities for personal and collective use. It features complete archive management. You get a document (text, image, music, video) from somewhere (e.g. from the Internet) and tell Unibas to take care of it. Unibas does the rest. Album management: CDs can be lost or destroyed by scratches or heat. Unibas makes it easy to back them up, including most of the metadata (composers, artists, titles, etc.). Organize your knowledge in a tree structure like most modern scientific books, yet extended over the complete human knowledge. Link your knowledge with existing knowledge in the tree and with external documents. Tap the many human-readable sources on the Internet and put their content in an ordered, machine-readable, semantic form. Explain words in a dictionary through well understood language-agnostic notions.
The Image-Guided Surgery Toolkit is a high-level, component-based framework that provides common functionality for image-guided surgery applications. The framework is a set of high-level components integrated with low-level open source software libraries and application programming interfaces (API) from hardware vendors. IGSTK provides, among other things, the ability to read and display medical images, an interface to common tracking hardware, and GUI and visualization capabilities.
KTorrent is a BitTorrent application that allows you to download and share files using the BitTorrent protocol. Key features include queuing of torrents, global and per-torrent speed limits, previewing of certain file types, importing of partially or fully downloaded files, file prioritization for multi-file torrents, selective downloading for multi-file torrents, kick/ban peers with an additional IP Filter dialog for list/edit purposes, UDP tracker support, support for private trackers and torrents, support for µTorrent's peer exchange, support for protocol encryption (compatible with Azureus), support for creating tracker-less torrents, support for distributed hash tables (DHT), support for UPnP to automatically forward ports on a LAN with dynamic assigned hosts, support for webseeds, scripting support via Kross, and interprocess control via DBus interface.
Marble is a Virtual Globe and World Atlas that you can use to learn more about Earth: you can pan and zoom around, and you can look up places and roads. A mouse click on a place label will provide the respective Wikipedia article. It's also possible to measure distances between locations or watch the current cloud cover. Marble offers different thematic maps: a classroom-style topographic map, a satellite view, street map, earth at night, and temperature and precipitation maps. All maps include a custom map key, so it can also be used as an educational tool for use in classrooms. For educational purposes, you can also change the date and time and watch how the starry sky and the twilight zone on the map change. Marble also features multiple projections: choose between a flat map ("Plate carré"), Mercator, or the globe.
K9Copy facilitates several methods for backing up a DVD. The software enables direct backup of a single layer DVD-5, provided the user's computer has a DVD recorder. Likewise, direct backup of a dual layer DVD-9 is possible with a dual layer DVD recorder. K9Copy is also able to fit the contents of a dual layer DVD-9 onto a single layer DVD-5. The interface allows a user to explicitly retain or discard any content from the original disc such as video titles, audio tracks, subtitles, and the DVD menu. All content selected for backup is compressed to a configurable target size (4400 MB by default) and stored on the user's hard drive as either an ISO image file or a DVD VIDEO_TS folder. K9Copy can either transfer the backup data to blank DVD±R media or utilize external DVD authoring software such as K3b for this task. Furthermore, an ISO image file produced by K9Copy can be recorded to DVD by any software on any platform capable of recording ISO images to disc. It can also back up a DVD to a video file (such as MPEG-4).
