AdslShare aims to be a powerful file sharing tool. It is built with modularity in mind. Each piece of the software is a plugin that can be loaded at start time. It currently has a GTK+ 2.x interface and a Gnutella protocol plugin. Planned features include the ability to download from different hosts, resume downloads and uploads, a new protocol with a more intelligent download engine, and a scripting interface.
BitTorrent is a tool for copying files from one machine to another. FTP punishes sites for being popular. Since all uploading is done from one place, a popular site needs big iron and big bandwidth. With BitTorrent, clients automatically mirror files they download, making the publisher's burden almost nothing.
The Bitcollider utility allows users to uniquely identify and submit files to Bitzi's community metadatabase project. The Bitcollider can be used to identify any local file and has support for extracting metadata from MP3, WAV, Vorbis, JPEG, PNG, GIF, AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and QuickTime files. Users can quickly look up all the known information about the given file in Bitzi's metadatabase.
ncp can copy files between networked computers and accounts without hassles (nor features like compression and encryption), and you do not even have to name the target machine if it is in the same LAN. npush and npoll can copy files (and pipe data) between machines without having the specify or even know the machine name in advance.
