PDF::API2 is 'The Next Generation' of Text::PDF::API, a Perl module-chain that facilitates the creation and modification of PDF files. It features support for the 14 base PDF Core Fonts, TrueType fonts, and Adobe-Type1, with unicode mappings, embedding of bitmap images, compression via zlib, and a rich object-oriented API.
Codehost's BrightQ is a suite of Unix and Linux printing utilities that presents users and administrators with a unified user interface across a variety of popular Unix printing systems, abstracting the details of print filters and providing a powerful GUI to end users. The project provides a mailto backend for the Common Unix Printing System. The mailto backend emails the filtered output to the user who requested the print job. The print job's output will be MIME attached to the email. cups-mailto depends on /usr/bin/file -i to generate the MIME type for this attachment.
Lout is a document formatting system which reads a high-level description of a document similar in style to LaTeX and produces a PostScript file which can be printed on most laser printers and graphic display devices. Plain text and PDF output are also available. Lout is inherently multilingual and adding new languages is easy.
Bidwell (named for Shelford Bidwell, the inventor of the first true fax machine way back in the late 1800s) is a set of Perl scripts that are designed to run as a cron job on a Unix-like system to download emails from a POP3 account and send their contents to a CUPS or lpr printer.
