pdfTeX is an extended version of TeX that can create PDF directly from TeX source files and enhance the result of TeX typesetting with the help of PDF. When PDF output is not selected, pdfTeX produces normal DVI output, otherwise it produces PDF output that looks identical to the DVI output. An important aspect of this project is to investigate alternative justification algorithms, optionally making use of multiple master fonts.
Argyll is an ICC compatible color management system. It supports accurate ICC profile creation for scanners, CMYK printers, and film recorders, and calibration and profiling of displays. Spectral sample data is supported, allowing a selection of illuminants observer types, and paper fluorescent whitener additive compensation. Profiles can also incorporate source specific gamut mappings for perceptual and saturation intents. Gamut mapping and profile linking uses the CIECAM02 appearance model, a unique gamut mapping algorithm, and a wide selection of rendering intents. It also includes code for a fast 8-bit raster color conversion engine as well as support for fast, fully accurate 16-bit conversion. Device color gamuts can also be viewed and compared using a VRML viewer.
The Java Print Dialog Framework (JPDF) allows software developers to add a comprehensive printing capability to existing Java applications. The JPDF can preview and print Swing components: JTable, JTree, JTextPane, JTextArea, JEditorPane, and JPanel. Business reports and forms can be composed, viewed, and printed. A wide variety of page-setup, print-preview, and print dialogs are provided. The JPDF is designed to be integrated into Java Swing applications.
KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels, database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode. Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are supported.
PDFreactor is a formatting processor to convert HTML and XML to PDF. It uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to define page layout and styles. It allows you to dynamically generate PDF documents such as invoices, delivery notes, shipping documents, or print versions of Web content on-the-fly. Vector graphics (SVG), barcodes, MathML, XSLT, and CMYK colors are supported. All common J2EE application servers are supported. Complete .NET, PHP, Perl, Python, and Ruby APIs are included. Direct integration into automatic build processes using Apache Ant is also possible.
flpsed is a WYSIWYG PostScript annotator. You can't actually edit existing documents, but you can add arbitrary text lines to existing documents. Added lines can later be re-edited with flpsed. Using pdftops, flpsed can import PDF documents and also add text to them. It is useful for filling in forms, adding notes, etc. In batch mode, it can be used to automate form filling.
PyKota is a full featured, internationalized, centralized, and extensible print quota system for CUPS. It supports PostgreSQL, OpenLDAP, MySQL, or SQLite as the quota database backend. This software features most of what you might expect from a modern print quota and accounting solution. Its flexibility and configurability greatly eases its integration into your own computing environment.
Philip's Music Writer is a program for typesetting music. It reads text files as input, and generates PostScript as output. It can also write simple MIDI files for proofhearing purposes. PMW is written in C and is freestanding; that is, it does not require additional processing software. It is a Linux/Unix port of a program that has run for over a decade on Acorn systems, where it was known as Philip's Music Scribe.
Disc-cover provides an easy way to produce covers for audio CDs. It scans audio CDs and uses information from the CDDB or CDINDEX database to build a back and front cover for the CD. Output is in Latex, Dvi, PDF, Postscript, HTML, plain ASCII, or any other format suited for cdlabelgen.
