pdfTeX is an extended version of TeX that can create PDF directly from TeX source files and enhance the result of TeX typesetting with the help of PDF. When PDF output is not selected, pdfTeX produces normal DVI output, otherwise it produces PDF output that looks identical to the DVI output. An important aspect of this project is to investigate alternative justification algorithms, optionally making use of multiple master fonts.

Philip's Music Writer is a program for typesetting music. It reads text files as input, and generates PostScript as output. It can also write simple MIDI files for proofhearing purposes. PMW is written in C and is freestanding; that is, it does not require additional processing software. It is a Linux/Unix port of a program that has run for over a decade on Acorn systems, where it was known as Philip's Music Scribe.

KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels, database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode. Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are supported.

PDFreactor is a formatting processor to convert HTML and XML to PDF. It uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to define page layout and styles. Apsfilter is a magic printfilter, allowing you to print different document types "automagically" without having to convert them manually into something which is understood by your printer. Apsfilter is a mature and powerful printing solution for any flavor of Unix running lpd or LPRng. It supports the latest GhostScript version and 3rd-party printer drivers (such as hpijs, ijs, hpdj, pcl3, and gimp-print). It autodetects lots of file, archive, and compression types. It supports printing on local as well as on Appletalk, Unix, and Windows remote printers. General and "per printer-queue" based config files allow you to configure the printer for your needs. The lpr command line options allow you to change printing parameters like print quality, orientation, duplex mode, etc. "on the fly" without having to edit any config file. A SETUP script helps you to test various supported ghostscript drivers prior installation, makes the necessary entries in /etc/printcap, creates spool directories, and creates apsfilter default config files as needed. A handbook in HTML is available. Several tools are also included: "aps2file" allows you to print to a file via apsfilter, "apspreview" previews files as generated by apsfilter using gv and friends, and "apsfilter-bug" assists you in doing bug and problem reports.
