The Montage FR-1 slide printer driver allows you to use a Lasergraphics Montage FR-1 slide printer attached to your Linux box via the generic SCSI interface. The core program takes a PPM file as input and causes the printer to expose a slide with that image. Additional scripts are provided to embed the core program into the BSD printing system. This allows you to expose any PostScript file, and to actually print to your slide printer.
slap prints text labels on Seiko Instruments' range of Smart Label Printers (all models). It is distributed with several bitmap fonts in several sizes. Also provided are printer-interface scripts for the common UNIX print-spoolers. slap is available for all UNIX and POSIX.1 systems.
tdsdump allows capture and printing of encapsulated postscript output from Tektronix TDS210, TDS220, and TDS224 digital oscilloscopes that have the TDS2CM option installed. It captures the serial data stream from the scope, and captures the content between the %PS-Adobe and %%EOF tags (inclusive) in the data, optionally spooling the result to a printer. This allows the scope to screen dump without a dedicated printer.
sii_printpbm allows you to print PBM files to the Seiko Instruments thermal label printer (SII SLP1100) from a UNIX box. This printer is also sold as the EZ30 Smart Label Printer. You can use ghostscript to render a postscript file to a PBM file and send it to the sii_printpbm installed as a print filter to lpd. This was first seen in action at the Atlanta Linux Showcase in 1998. The program is to be used in conjunction with a print filter that converts an image into a PBM file before sending it to the printer.
printerpowerd is a little Python script designed for users of older printers who want to save power when not using their printer, without manually turning it on and off. It runs, checking the printer queue directory every five seconds, turns it on when it sees a job, and turns it off after a configurable amount of idle time.
