The Big Faceless Java PDF Viewer is a Swing component that can display PDF documents. It is intended for developers who don't require the full API. CUPS is a standards-based printing system for Mac OS X and other Unix-like operating systems. It provides the System V and Berkeley command line interfaces, and uses the Internet Printing Protocol ("IPP") as the basis for managing print jobs and queues. The Line Printer Daemon (LPD) Server Message Block (SMB), and AppSocket (a.k.a. JetDirect) protocols are also supported with reduced functionality. CUPS adds network printer browsing and PostScript Printer Description ("PPD") based printing options to support real world printing.
The mp program will pretty print various files for you. It can be used in conjunction with a mail reading utility for producing a pretty print of your mail items. It can be used with a news reading tool to pretty print news articles. Digests can also be printed, and this version can pretty print ordinary ASCII files as well. Support for personal organiser printing was added into the last released version. There are numerous configuration options to allow you to adjust the way mp generates its output.
makelabels is a program for creating PostScript files for printing onto peel-off mailing label sheets. It supports printing text of an arbitrary length and includes facilities for specifying the positioning of the text to be printed (in order to accommodate labels with pre-printed company logos, for example).
flpsed is a WYSIWYG PostScript annotator. You can't actually edit existing documents, but you can add arbitrary text lines to existing documents. Added lines can later be re-edited with flpsed. Using pdftops, flpsed can import PDF documents and also add text to them. It is useful for filling in forms, adding notes, etc. In batch mode, it can be used to automate form filling.
