beep does what you'd expect: it beeps. But unlike printf("\a"), beep allows you to control pitch, duration, and repetitions. Its job is to live inside shell/perl scripts and allow more granularity than one has otherwise. It is controlled completely through command line options. It's not supposed to be complex, and it isn't - but it makes system monitoring (or whatever else it gets hacked onto) that much more informative.
Beonex Communicator is Mozilla polished for end users. It contains Navigator, Mailnews, Composer, and ChatZilla. Navigator has support for key web standards and a convenient interface. For example, it eases searching the Internet, similar to Apple's Sherlock on Macintosh. The Bookmark Manager can deal with huge collections of bookmarks and allows you to overview and sort them while you are surfing. If you want, you can track the latest headlines or webcams using the Sidebar. The Mailnews client supports multiple IMAP, POP3 and/or news accounts for each user, so you can download and manage all your email from various accounts in one place and store them on your computer or the server. Beonex puts a strong emphasis on security, privacy, and netiquette, to protect the private or confidential information on your computer and to encourage fairness.
Fresco (formerly Berlin) is an experimental windowing system which is a logical extension of the integrated layout and structured graphics model developed in InterViews and the original Fresco project. It makes heavy use of CORBA for transparent inter-process control, and utilizes a loadable module framework to maintain good drawing speed and extensive customizabillity.
BetaFTPD is a single-threaded FTP daemon. The single-threadedness makes it faster than most other FTP daemons (contrary to common belief), and makes it extremely light on memory. Although it lacks a few functions (which you probably won't miss), the current version is very small and has a decent amount of functionality. BetaFTPD is built on the concept of heavy code reuse, which should hopefully make it easier for other programmers to contribute.
BFBTester is good for doing quick, proactive security checks of binary programs. BFBTester will perform checks of single and multiple argument command line overflows and environment variable overflows. It can also watch for tempfile creation activity to alert the user of any programs using unsafe tempfile names.
bftpd is a very configurable Linux FTP server which can do chroot without special configuration or directory preparation. It will work out-of-the-box with almost no configuration required, and works on all Unix variants tested. Most FTP commands are supported, and user authentication is done via passwd/shadow or PAM. tar/gzip on-the-fly is supported.
Bicycle Ride Calorie Calculator is a simple program that calculates the number of calories expended on a bicycle ride. It is based on an article in the May 1989 issue of Bicycling Magazine, pp. 100-103. It provides a good estimate of the number of calories burned based on time, distance, rider weight, wind speed and direction, drafting, and climbing.
