POPauthd is a Perl-based daemon that uses POP to authorize connecting hosts for SMTP relaying. It is particularly useful to authenticate roaming users with IP addresses that change often. The daemon runs in the background, watching the syslog for successful POP logins. When it sees one it enters the IP in sendmail's access database, giving the host authorization to relay through the server. The entries can be expired after a prescribed, configurable period of time with a companion script run via crontab.
JFetch is an application to download your email through protocols like POP3 and IMAP. The decision of whether to download a mail or not is made through a sequence of filters. By implementing certain interfaces, a user can very easily add his/her own filter to the current set of provided filters. Examples of filters are spam control, size restrictions, etc. JFetch downloads the email if it matches the criteria and then can deliver it using one of its delivery options.
Designed as a Perl framework to support many different types of POP and email servers, Mobile POP Relay is useful for mobile users. Once a user successfully authenticates against a POP server, relaying is allowed through the server for a specified time period. It supports Ipop3d, Qpopper, and Vpopd with Sendmail or Exim.
Replex is an administrative tool for managing email on any Unix-like OS. It can handle multiple domains, users, mailing lists, etc. without requiring creation of Unix user accounts for mailboxes or authentication. Replex is written in PHP4 and stores all information in a MySQL database. Replex relies on Postfix for SMTP and Cyrus for IMAP and POP3 accounts.
POP 3 client is a PHP class that allows you to access mail boxes using the POP3 protocol. It provides a stream wrapper class for retrieving messages like files using the PHP fopen function, establishes secure connections using TLS, accesses servers using normal and APOP login methods, supports authentication mechanisms such as PLAIN, LOGIN, CRAM-MD5, NTLM (Windows or Linux/Unix via Samba) via the PHP SASL library, and supports listing of message sizes, retrieval of a message at once, separating the headers from the body, retrieving a message in small chunks to not exceed the available memory, and deleting messages.
Share360 is an instant, cost-effective Web-based groupware suite integrating a customizable intranet portal page with key collaborative applications including document management, project management, contact databases, a group scheduler, a bulletin board, a to-do list, Web-based email, and Outlook Sync for Address Book. A 60-day free trial download is available.
Eremove is a small GTK-based application with a simple interface. It allows you to view a summary of the contents of a mailbox on a POP3 server. It displays a list with size, atachment, from, date, and subject. It allows you to preview the headers/contents of each email, and select some or all of the messages for deletion.
Hotwayd is a POP3/SMTP to HTTPMail (WebDAV) gateway. HTTPMail is a somewhat undocumented WebDAV-based protocol used by a variety of mail servers including Hotmail, MSN, Lycos, and Spray. Hotwayd allows you to use any standard POP3/SMTP mail reader to send and receive mail via these servers, similar to the way that Outlook Express can access a hotmail account. It supports features such as folder selection to get folders other than the inbox and proxy server support (if you require a proxy to access the internet).
BEJY is a modular server application. It is packaged, by default, as a Web application container and mail server with SSL. It has functionality similar to inetd, and has some helper classes/functions to ease the implementation of new protocols. It provides a generic multithreaded TPC/IP server implementation with optional SSL support, covering the complete connection and thread management. Each supported service provides its protocol implementation. The current version comes with HTTP, SMTP, POP3, and IMAP protocol implementations. The HTTP protocol implementation also contains a servlet engine, a JSP 1.2 engine, a handler to invoke CGI, and other useful things. The mail protocols require a database using JDBC, as MySQL, MSSQL, and others.
