Epris is a D-Bus service and command line client to listen to music. Unlike xmms2 or mpd, it uses GStreamer and D-Bus. It supports all formats supported by GStreamer, and can play both video and audio. It supports gap-less playback thanks to playbin2. It has an extensible command line interface, a small memory footprint, automatic deactivation, and an easy D-Bus interface for other UIs.
libkarma is a C library for managing the Rio Karma via TCP/IP. It supports all basic protocol commands and some advanced functions on top of these, like caching of the Rio database. There are two proof-of-concept tools included, riocp and chprop. riocp can be used to upload files to the Karma.
Deejayd is a multi purpose media player that can be completely controlled through the network using XML messages. It suppports playlists, searching, and many media tags. It can playback many music and video formats using either its xine backend (recommended) or its GStreamer backend.
My Media System is a media-driven system for easy movie and audio playback, image viewing, game playing or watching TV. It supports many common file formats, including MP3, OGG, DivX, XviD, VCD, SVCD, DVD, JPEG, PNG, and GIF. It is controlled using a remote control, USB device, or keyboard. It supports DXR3, DVB, X11, SDL, and framebuffer output.
dudl is a collection of tools to grab, encode, and rename MP3 files, archive them, and maintain a database of all files. On top of this runs the dudld Jukebox daemon that plays your files through gstreamer. dudld's strengths are the powerful tag based filters, the capability to cope with very large collections, and the network protocol to control its operation. There is a full featured command-line client, a minimalistic GTK client, and a lirc client. Writing new clients should be easy with the supplied client libraries.
XMMS2 is a redesign of the XMMS music player. It features a client-server model, allowing multiple (even simultaneous!) user interfaces, both textual and graphical. All common audio formats are supported using plugins. On top of this, there is a flexible media library to organize your music.
YConsole allows you to monitor and control the Y server in a GUI environment. It also features a set of windows including the YAudio window, YMixer window, and YPlayer window that allow you to control all aspects of the Y server. The YPlayer window allows you to play sound objects and control audio CDs.
