vm-image-manage is a simple script for managing a small cluster of Xen virtual machines on a single host with one command. It's optimized for repeatedly restarting a virtual machine slot with an image. It features templates for Xen configuration files. It speeds the import and export of Xen images to tgz archives. It speeds frequent redeployment with rsync. It manages mounting domains when the VM is down and un-mounting when the domain is launched.
radmind is a suite of Unix command-line tools and a server designed to remotely administer the file systems of multiple Unix machines. At its core, radmind operates as a tripwire. It is able to detect changes to any managed filesystem object, e.g. files, directories, links, etc. However, radmind goes further than just integrity checking: once a change is detected, radmind can optionally reverse the change. Each managed machine may have its own loadset composed of multiple, layered overloads. This allows, for example, the operating system to be described separately from applications. Loadsets are stored on a remote server. By updating a loadset on the server, changes can be pushed to managed machines.
wget can be used to download a Web site, with all pages referenced by the originating one, but it saves all pages in a directory tree (or single directory). The intention of web-archive-creator is to join the power of wget and the usability of the .war format, which Konqueror is able to browse. The Web ARrchive format is simply a tarred and gzipped file containing the Web files. The web-archive-creator script performs the download with wget and writes an index.html linking to the starting pages/URLs wget fetched.
AutoUpdate is a Perl script which performs a task similar to Red Hat's up2date or autorpm. It can be used to automatically download and upgrade RPMs from different HTTP(S) or (S)FTP sites, while also handling dependencies. Moreover, it can also be used to keep a server with a customized (Red Hat) distribution plus all clients up to date.
Nix is a purely functional package manager. It allows multiple versions of a package to be installed side-by-side, ensures that dependency specifications are complete, supports atomic upgrades and rollbacks, allows non-root users to install software, and has many other features. It is the basis of the NixOS Linux distribution, but it can be used equally well under other Unix systems.
Japt-Proxy is a fast and reliable caching proxy for Debian's APT system. It is intended for environments where several Debian systems have to be kept up-to-date and downloading the same files over and over again from the Debian mirrors is undesirable. Even with high volume internet connections, it can dramatically reduce the time required to install or update Debian on many machines.
Archive2iso takes a directory tree and randomizes the files in the tree to stripe the files across several ISO files that can be archived or burned off to a CD. The ISO files are generated by calling the CDiso.pm module. It reads an array generated by an INCLUDE LIST so the ISO file can be made with mkisofs. The intended use is to stripe files across multiple CD/DVD randomly so if one disc is damaged all the files that were in the same directory will not be lost since files are spread across multiple disks. The actual files themselves are not split; all files remain in their original state.
