Velocity is a Java-based template engine. It permits anyone to use the simple yet powerful template language to reference objects defined in Java code. When Velocity is used for Web development, Web designers can work in parallel with Java programmers to develop Web sites according to the Model-View-Controller (MVC) model, meaning that Web page designers can focus solely on creating a site that looks good, and programmers can focus solely on writing top-notch code. Velocity separates Java code from the Web pages, making the web site more maintainable over the long run and providing a viable alternative to Java Server Pages (JSPs) or PHP. Velocity also provides template services for the Turbine Web application framework, making a template service that allows Web applications to be developed according to a true MVC model.
Admin is entirely written in Java. It uses Swing GUI Components and JDBC to connect to databases. It has been succesfully tested with MySQL, InstantDB, Oracle, Empress, and PostgreSQL. You can have a tree view of the RDBMS or pick a single instance to have a look at its metadata. It allows you to create, modify, and drop tables and to create indices on a table. The dynamic form makes it easy to enter data into a certain table, and the guided query makes it easy to retrieve data from a table and to export it. Java developers will probably enjoy the code generator doing an OO relational wrapper and a swing GUI for them. You can also export and import data and transport it from one DBMS to another.
Cameleon a Framework for developing reliable database applications in a technology independent and predominantly editorial way. User interfaces may be easily exchanged from Swing to HTML and vice versa, and databases may be exchanged in the same manner. The Swing variant framework is established. The HTML user interface is under construction but can be reviewed on the project Webpage ("Test sample application"). Cameleon's target users are programmers who manage midrange data volumes (from thousands to millions of database records) and who prefer simplicity and availability rather than animation. Business features such as security management and parameter administration are supported in the framework. The framework allows web developement without any knowledge of JSP, HTML, Servlets etc. Data input elements (and groups of them) may be used in Java Server Pages.
Modeling Framework fills the gap between the Python object world and relational databases in that it allows users to transparently create, retrieve, update, or delete Python objects from a database without having to write a single line of SQL. Its main features include generation of database schema, generation of Python code templates ready to be used, support for transparent mapping of (class) inheritance in relational databases, object-oriented query language, use of standard Python getters to traverse relationships (the related objects are automatically fetched when needed and when appropriate), and automatic checking for referential-integrity constraints, etc. Supported databases are MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and SQLite.
PHP GEN reads the list of tables in a database, lets you select one, then reads the structure of it, suggests a basic (modifiable) configuration, and generates good-style and easily maintainable PHP code capable of listing, searching, adding, editing, detailing, and deleting records. Both the generated code and the engine itself use Pear::DB for the database-abstraction layer and Smarty for the presentation/interface layer. Master/detail (foreign keys) are supported.
Chit is a template based generator for textual data, such as program code, configuration data, or anything else you can imagine. It gathers its input from data in a relational database. This means that the output text is generated from a template according to a given SQL statement. This tool's original purpose was to generate configuration files for Nagios from a local PostgreSQL database.
