Ghostscript is a processor for PostScript and PDF files. It can rasterize these files to a wide variety of printers, devices for screen preview, and image file formats. Since applications tend to prepare pages for printing in a high-level format such as PostScript, most Unix users with low-level bitmap printers, such as inkjets, use GhostScript as part of the printing process. In addition, Ghostscript is capable of converting PostScript files, functionality comparable to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, but on the command line. In addition, Ghostscript is used for file import and viewing by a great many other applications, including xv, ImageMagick, gimp, and xdvi. Several GUI wrappers for viewing PostScript and PDF files exist, including GSview, ghostview, gv, ggv, and kghostview. This is far from a comprehensive list.
album is a free HTML/XHTML photo album and gallery generator that supports themes/skins. You can choose different themes or write your own to get different layouts and styles. It creates all your thumbnails (including directory thumbnails) and descends into directories so you can organize your photos. Arabeske is a special kind of vector drawing software. It has a limited set of shapes but is extremely specialised towards complex symmetric interlaced drawings, like those traditionally found in Arabic architecture. It is not a texture editor, but rather a pattern generator. It exports in EPS, PNG, and POV-Ray formats.
btn4ws.pl (Buttons for Website) is a Gimp-perl plugin that creates a set of buttons for a Web site. It takes the button labels from a text file, and can easily generate buttons for JavaScript rollover effects. You can add bevel and lighting to the buttons and also keep the .xcf files to work with them after creation. It can also generate example HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. btn4ws only works with Gimp 1.4.x.
cthumb allows you to create Web albums of digital pictures with thumbnails, captions, and several different views of the collection, including (optionally) several languages and resolutions. An album is composed of a series of pages, each composed of a collection of pictures. You can have several annotations per picture, and can customize almost everything in the way the albums look on the screen.
