Macfork can be used to both list and extract resources from a Macintosh resource fork under unix. Currently it supports icon families, pict resources and palettes, but the data from any resource may be extracted to a data file. It was written to port Macintosh icons and pictures over to unix, but has many other potential uses.
shsecret takes a file and splits it into N parts of equal size such that any M parts can be used to reconstruct the secret, but fewer than M will give absolutely no information about the secret. This program is written in strict ANSI C, so it should be completely portable. It is also hopefully simpler and more efficient than other implementations of the same algorithm.
FNV hashes are designed to be fast while maintaining a low collision rate. The high dispersion of the FNV hashes makes them well-suited for hashing nearly identical strings such as URLs, hostnames, text, and IP addresses. FNV is used in a wide variety of applications including mdbm, DNS, web search engines, NFS, Netnews, etc.
Clusters and server farms often have many nodes and very little hardware support for locating and diagnosing problems, especially if the problem involves the network interface. Helpme is a small stand-alone program that allows a node to use the standard PC speaker, both to signal that a problem has been detected and to render arbitrary alphanumeric text using either Morse code or the NATO phonetic alphabet. The input syntax allows repeating messages and more.
crypt_blowfish is an efficient implementation of a modern password hashing algorithm, based on the Blowfish block cipher, provided via the crypt(3) and a reentrant interface. It is compatible with bcrypt as used in OpenBSD. It is adaptable to future processor performance improvements, allowing you to arbitrarily increase the processing cost of checking a password while still maintaining compatibility with your older password hashes. The hashes it produces are several orders of magnitude stronger than traditional Unix DES-based or FreeBSD-style MD5-based hashes.
