INSERT (the Inside Security Rescue Toolkit) aims to be a multi-functional, multi-purpose disaster recovery and network analysis system. It boots from a credit card-sized CD-ROM and is basically a stripped-down version of Knoppix. It features good hardware detection, fluxbox, emelfm, links-hacked, ssh, tcpdump, nmap, chntpwd, and much more. It provides full read-write support for NTFS partitions (using ntfs-3g), and the ClamAV virus scanner (including a fairly recent signature database and a GUI). It provides partition handling with gParted and also has a network boot facility.
ROPE is an open-ended iptables match module that allows rules to be written using a simple but powerful scripting language. It is designed for controlling complex high-level protocols that cannot be blocked using traditional criteria based on port numbers (etc.). Criteria can include tests on any field of the IP, UDP, or TCP headers as well as the packet data payload.
ISDN Router allows you to convert old hardware into a secure masquerading ISDN router, including caching nameserver, IP Port Forwarding, and on-demand channel bundling. The system fits onto a single disk, and users can change the configuration through a simple menu-based system (on the console or over telnet) and store it permanently on the disk.
Inferno was originally developed at Bell Labs (the research division of Lucent Technologies). It is a well-designed, economical operating system particularly suitable for use in networked devices such as advanced video telephones, hand-held devices, TV set-top boxes, and many other embedded applications. Inferno can run in native mode on an embedded system or in emulation mode under many different operating systems. Inferno has many features in common with Plan 9.
Instant Links is a way to automate your link partners. People can add a reciprocal link from the bottom of the page in each category. It makes it easy to sign up to be placed on your Web site. It features automatic checking of link partners links, search engine friendly pages, unlimited links and categories, broken links verification, personalized email notifications, import DMOZ listings for an instant directory, cron for automatic updating, Google PageRank display, random link display, easy installation and backup, and easy site integration. Instant Links can be a stand alone niche directory.
Instant-Grid is a Knoppix-based live-CD bundled with a pre-configured grid environment based on the Globus Toolkit. One PC started from this CD becomes the Instant-Grid frontend. It also functions as a PXE boot-server, allowing other PCs in the same local network to boot the Instant-Grid environment. Together with the frontend, these PCs automatically form a working test grid. Like with the original Knoppix, the existing configuration of the participating PC is not touched (except maybe for enabling the PXE boot-option), and remains instantly available by a simple reboot.
