Mnix is a free, simple, and fast i686 GNU/Linux distribution, aimed at experienced users. It is a hybrid distribution; both precompiled packages and sources are supplied. The main focus is keep it simple and to be as Unix-like as possible, using "Free Software" only. Mnix is installed as a basic system with console-only tools, which forms the base which lets the user build a customized distribution (and even remaster it). Its main features are: Free Software only, BSD-style init scripts, only one shell (bash), a simple package manager (mtpkg), a ports-like repository structure called "mars" (the Mtpkg Applications Repository System), a simple filesystem hierarchy which adheres to the Unix philosophy, kernel-libre-only sources, a set of libraries and compilers for the most-used programming languages, and a complete set of shell packages (installable from the ISO) to set up in 30 minutes (more or less) a fully working console-based system. Mnix GNU/Linux is suitable for the somewhat-experienced user who prefers console admin tools to tweak the system, who prefers to compile packages with custom settings, and who wants to customize the kernel for his own system.
MeeGo is a Linux-based mobile and embedded operating system. It brings together the Moblin project, headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single open source activity. MeeGo currently targets platforms such as netbooks and entry-level desktops, handheld computing and communications devices, in-vehicle infotainment devices, connected TVs, and media phones. All of these platforms have common user requirements in communications, application, and Internet services in a portable or small form factor. The MeeGo project will continue to expand platform support as new features are incorporated and new form factors emerge in the market.
Chakra Linux is a Linux distribution that combines the simplicity of Arch Linux with KDE. It is fast, user-friendly, and extremely powerful. It can be used as a live CD or installed to hard disk. Chakra is currently under heavy and active development. It features a graphical installer and automatic hardware configuration. Chakra provides a modular and tweaked package set of the KDE Software Compilation with a lot of useful additions. It features the concept of half-rolling releases and freshly cooked packages and bundles. It is designed for people who really want to learn something about Linux or don't want to deal with administrative overhead.
musl is a new implementation of the standard library for Linux-based systems. It is lightweight, fast, simple, free, and strives to be correct in the sense of standards-conformance and safety. It includes a wrapper for building programs against musl in place of the system standard library (e.g. glibc), making it possible to immediately evaluate the library and build compact statically linked binaries with it.
CloudLinux is a Linux operating system designed to improve control in the shared hosting and data center arena, while simultaneously increasing control and stability, as well as improving overall performance. It employs kernel level technology called LVE to allow Web hosting companies to control QoS of each individual Web site as well as each section of the Web site. The technology can be used for any multi-tenant environment, where it is beneficial to control resource usage of individual tenant. With CloudLinux, hosting companies can make sure that a single site cannot slow down or take down other Web sites. The OS is interchangeable with CentOS.
